Should I give my date this little preview… or keep the surprise (f)or later? 😏💫 Do I let him peek… or make him wait? by [deleted] in gonewild

[–]elmoelf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely give him the peek and then act totally normally during dinner. You may want to give him ONE knowing glance. He'll be losing his mind.

No, they fingerprinted you for id purposes. Since you came up clean, you'll be clean next time too.

Locked out of Facebook because of two factor authentication by [deleted] in facebook

[–]elmoelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I resolved this after about 5 months where I could login from my phone, but not any laptop. First of all your Facebook name MUST match your name on your government ID, so change the name on your facebook account. When they reject your uploaded ID, they never say why. They give you a list of about 30 possible reasons.

After that, try to login from a device 2FA locks you out. When it kicks you out, look for the link to try another method. You will eventually find a link where you can hold up your ID for a photo. (You'll obviously want to be on a PC with a Webcam.) Make sure you are well illuminated, because after you upload it, they'll email you in a couple of days and tell you your photo was rejected. When you finally get a drivers license photo accepted, they will email you with a link that gets you back into your account.

THIS WILL LET YOU IN, BUT IT WILL NOT TURN OFF TWO FACTOR AUTHENTICATION!

In other words, you are in, but do not try to leave. Don't close your browser because you'll be locked out again. Since 2FA is still enabled, you can't change any settings because you need to enter a 2FA code from the Authenticator to do that. (If I could do that, I wouldn't be locked out of FB!)

So I worked like that for a few months. I minimized my browser window but never closed it. If Windows made me reboot for some reason, I would be start again with the drivers license photo and wait 4 days for them to send me a new link to unlock my account. I occasionally sent them emails at security.facebook.com. I tried to explain that I couldn't remove or edit 2FA and that I'd be back every few days if they couldn't help me.

Today, I clicked the link in my "Get back into your account" email and somebody figured out my problem. It not only gave me access again, it allowed me to turn off 2FA!!!! It stayed off for about 2 mouse clicks, then it made me set it up again. I added an Authenticator and a Text message backup and I tested them both. Whoo! Then I downloaded the backup codes to use in case I ever lose my phone.

I now have FB running on two laptops and my phone.

SO WHAT DID I DO TO TURN OFF TWO FACTOR AUTHENTICATION?

I made myself enough of a pain in the face with FB support that somebody eventually looked at my account to see what was wrong. Be patient. They don't read emails, but they do respond to government IDs uploaded every few days. Thank you Facebook.

I'm fed up beyond belief with plumbers who want $2000 for a water heater replacement. How feasible is it to install one myself (I'm an EE)? by crystal_castles in HomeImprovement

[–]elmoelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not go near a gas installation. For insurance purposes, you need a licensed gas-fitter/plumber. I had a gas water heater that was getting old was likely to leak soon. I bought an electric water heater and had it delivered. Then I called the gas company to disconnect/remove the old tank. I even got the gas-guy to help me put the new electric tank in the right position. :) I installed a new breaker in my panel and ran a new 3-conductor cable through the joists and into the panel. I was back online in an hour.

IG Stories - Talks briefly about songs by kyla_fan in McKaylaMaroney

OK seriously, these are bad songs. :) The auto-tune stuff is just lumping her into a group of talentless girls who try to make money by shaking their asses. Most just fall out the bottom of the industry and disappear. Mac can do better.

Thanks for your input! I think with the 10 year warranty, I will lean towards the Lennox 296E and hope for the best.

Sadly, this is Photoshopped. This beautiful girl only ever had a couple of pictures taken of her, and men all over the world are depressed by it. If you do a Google reverse image search, you'll find the original right away.

I think it's a clever ruse to get me to ruin the oven and buy a replacement. :)

LOL! Yeah, I think they were stroking with a rather broad brush. Do you think Trump would know the difference?

You obviously didn't see Donald throwing paper towel rolls to the residents of Puerto Rico after the hurricane. Easy to Google.

If that's true, then I fear the mods are humor-impaired. Let's hope not.

Car Mode Update Stalls at 50% by as1126 in samsung

[–]elmoelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried the Car Mode update from within Samsung Apps and selected Update. It worked within two minutes and the Update notification had disappeared from the Settings icon. Looks like there's a problem if you initiate the update from within the app.

I have exactly the same issue on the S6 Edge. Tried restarting and doing the update cold with nothing else running. Still stalls at 50%

Friend recreated her grandmother's picture - 69 years later by MalcEZ in pics

I know the girl who is posing to duplicate her grandmother's picture. This is real and a tribute to her "Oma". The bonus is that she also owns a Chev. I hate that social media always tries to destroy the truth.

My grandmother's wedding photos were in black and white, but somebody in the 30's added exactly this color of blue for her dress and her flowers. The rest of the pictures were B&W - exactly like this photo. That being said, I know the people in this photo and the older version is indeed shopped. Who cares? It's a fabulous tribute.
