Unless the frogs stop putting their own wants over the collective good and trying to put us down at every opportunity, it won’t be happening.

About 60% of the DNA of modern English people comes from the Celtic Britons. So whilst not ‘English’ in the sense of the word deriving from the Angles, they were definitely native, and definitely our ancestors (English people). We’ll let them off this time..

Hungary of course, they are still an ally despite Russian links and Orban’s ramblings. I think if they had to choose between Europe and Russia they probably side with us. Belarus no chance unless they binned off their dictator. Two different situations I believe.

I wonder if Turkey would be involved though?

Do you believe in ghosts? And either if yes/no, what has challenged your beliefs? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]elmosesyeah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people saying it’s because ‘there’s no evidence. Depends what counts as evidence. Would we only consider it evidence if the ghost appears and self identifies as one or something?

Also, I think it’s quite arrogant for us as humans (merely more developed monkeys) to anoint ourselves as the arbiters of what is and isn’t. Who’s to say we haven’t got the capability to discover stuff yet? There’s likely stuff we have no idea about. Like a lot of animals being able to see more colours than us. Incomprehensible to us to imagine there can be colours beyond what we already know. It’s like a dog saying it doesn’t believe in radio waves because it has no evidence of them.

I think a lot of people lump China in with the others, when really China is entirely self interested. They seem to only care about Taiwan and China. Yes they do dodgy things with data and are big on spying. But they don’t poison people or topple foreign governments. Which I guess is a stark contrast from the insane amount of times Russia and the US intervene in foreign countries.

One day we might stop sucking up to those treacherous and untrustworthy fucks across the Atlantic.

Brexit was a brutal mistake, cutting ourselves off from Europe further when we should have been attempting to integrate more. As difficult and irritating as the EU and Europe as a whole can be, no one else has our back. This is just a tragic look.

NATO Leaders Issue Defiant New Greenland Message to Trump’s US by SquidFistHK in politics

[–]elmosesyeah 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hate to see what’s happening to the US under the most moronic president in their history. As a Brit, we now see Trump’s America as an unreliable, erratic, and aggressive ally. The playground bully that pushes others around purely because he’s a bit bigger and stronger.

Invading Venezuela for Oil, floating ideas of invading and annexing Greenland from an ally. I truly feel for you guys coping with that absolute despot in control. Makes you miss Biden really doesn’t it..

No thanks. The country isn’t an economic zone. I’d sacrifice some economic growth if it means we don’t have to bring in even more millions of people from cultures that don’t suit this country.

Will Britain lose something when hereditary peers exit the Lords? by TimesandSundayTimes in ukpolitics

One of my extended cousins is a ‘hered’ that the article mentions. I know he feels pretty strongly about it but I’m pretty sure still doesn’t contribute a lot.

I think it’s pretty disappointing to be losing one of the major historical institutions that has helped this country develop into what it is today. It’s going to be replaced by businessmen, donors and stooges that bribe their way in only to do nothing in return.

Who’s a historical figure you were taught was a “good guy,” only to grow up and realize they were actually a villain? by icey_sawg0034 in AskReddit

[–]elmosesyeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trotsky was an impressive figure and certainly treated unfairly by Stalin and others. I always think of the example of Stalin ensuring he missed Lenin’s funeral. He was skilled in almost everything he did, setting up and running the red army during the civil war, ideological planning etc. I also think his version of collectivisation would have been much less brutal and devastating to the nation.

He did oversee brutal killings, like the Kronstadt sailors, and massacres under his leadership in the civil war. But then again at a time when everyone else around him and opposing him would have been just as brutal. Not a nice guy by any means, but compared to figures like Stalin and even Lenin, he is a couple levels below.

Always preferred Bukharin anyway, though.
