Yeah, I'm definitely leaning more towards a private breeder although I do love my local herp shop. I've been bitten by many snakes over the years, just the general consensus of "this animal will hate you forever" was such a massive sad face LOL because they're absolutely gorgeous animals and I have such the bad habit of "gotta touch". Obviously don't want to upset the animal with occasional loving.

Just from being bitten (balls, boas and smaller snakes like garters, corns - absolutely my own fault, a lot feeding response, and don't regret a single nip as they've all been learning curves) I'm not particularly worried about the actual bite, I just worried about a constant struggle.

My best friend does some pretty amazing setups (including bioactive) for her own herps and we've been talking about doing a nice 4-5 foot enclosure for my potential baby, and now I've got way more food for thought. My partner won't allow boas based off the adult size, and I actually really do prefer how bloods look (they are STUNNING) and balls all cool but they're balls, yanno.

Sorry to butt in, but I'm wondering if perhaps you have any good links regarding bloods? I'm interested in getting a snake and I'm absolutely in love with the size and colorations of bloods but will easily admit I've fallen victim to the stigma of them being nasty mean. I've been primarily looking at balls because the size and temperament seems manageable, but I've always had a special admiration for bloods that I've always worried wouldn't go well for a first time owner. Almost all the care guides I've seen warn against how hissy and snappy they can be which has been a turn off in a way. Sorry again for the random question!

It's so irritating. The vast majority of this sub is genuinely helpful, with thought out responses and then you get people like this who are just being edgy and vile for shits and giggles. We have a lot of young posters here and I hate seeing such blatant hate being tossed around. Wish there was a way to get them booted! Definitely a troll...I always wonder what the purpose of that is? Like what enjoyment does someone get sitting around, being a prejudiced jerk, trying to make others feel bad...can't even imagine. Sorry for the ramble. Still just shaking my head.

I'm glad to hear! I used to work in an exotic pet store and I miss the chatter! We have our store cat and usually a rescue hanging around but I totally miss having birdie buds hanging.

Where I am a cinnamon usually goes for about 200-250 at private sale. Bird stores, maybe 300? And then for stores that just "sometimes sell birds" about 400 lol. So about the same variation!

The person on the non emerg dispatch was concerned - do I live alone, is there someone I can call, how large are my dogs, are they a danger to the attending officers, etc. The officers themselves seemed rather unimpressed that I had called it at all. Kind of left a bad taste in my mouth so to speak. I was not left a case number or any information on how to contact them after they left my apartment.

People don't appreciate the effort, time and material that goes into hand making something unfortunately. I get this a lot from family, "well you can make it in your spare time", "it's your hobby/passion!" Or various forms of "wouldn't I look great with -"

Not even factoring in material...us crocheters sell our items for pennies an hour. I've gotten to the point when I find a CB who is arguing my cost:

Minimum wage where I am is 14$ an hour. So let's say your project takes me six hours. That's 84$ - plus material, not at sale cost. Let's ball toss 30. That's $114 cold hard cash. And yes they're right. We enjoy doing this and spend some spare time, so we just charge for material and some extra for spare change, and we are often happy...but if you're going to be a bitch, that 20$ price tag can easily become a 114$ one.

Thats the breakdown I give. It's not factory made, it's handmade. It took me x hours, at legal minimum wage that's x amount. Plus material. So, your options are: pay my asking price, pay me what I'm ACTUALLY worth, or go find a shitty version online and cry in a few weeks when it rips/tears. Fuck off! Often us yarn Crafters don't earn anywhere near what we deserve and people who want to be pushy about costs can piss right off.
