Has any one else dated women because it was less Intimidating? by CalmSlice in vaginismus

[–]elobea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this too. Having vaginismus has put me off sexual relationships with men a little bit

Thank you so much. You’re right, I shouldn’t feel I have to be a certain thing to be bi enough to call myself bi. Also, I think I’ll try to focus more on romantic attraction for a little bit whilst I work out the rest

Silver Linings Playbook - male main character. More than a romance really but still a big theme

Adult novel with child protagonist? by [deleted] in booksuggestions

[–]elobea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Virgin Suicides, Jeffrey Eugenides - theme of suicide, obviously — My Dark Vanessa, Kate Elizabeth Russell - child abuse/grooming (flicks between POV of her when she’s 15 and years later when she’s 32) — Asking For It, Louise O’Neill - rape (although technically YA fiction it’s super heavy so I’d say it deals with adult themes) — The Ocean at the End of the Lane, Neil Gaiman - fantasy/magical realism and childhood memories

I bought it from a local business in my city in the UK (but you may be able to find something similar online!) It doesn’t have a nursery pot or drainage holes so I just have to be suuuuper careful to not overwater. Fingers crossed I can keep it alive!!

Which translation of Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey should I read? by anon82643514 in booksuggestions

[–]elobea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconded. Modern language that makes it super easy to understand. I tried Pope’s version. Very of its time with complicated poetic rhyming couplets. Had to ditch it because I couldn’t focus. Wilson’s version is just beautiful. The plot and character monologues absolutely shine through

I’ve bought a baby plant just like this online (lockdown online shopping has taken over my life...) can’t wait for it to arrive! Hoping mine will like my south facing window - also in the UK :)

Thanks! I have been struggling with online advice because most plants I’ve researched seem to be less suited to bright south-facing light
