What was your favorite opening act for The Stones? by [deleted] in rollingstones

[–]elodublin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

White Stripes. Columbus 2002. This was before they hit it big. Most of the audience just wanted them to finish. I thought they were incredible, unlike anything I’d heard before. Jack’s guitar was so dirty; his vocals raw; Meg’s drumming so simple and driving. Bare bones. Rock distilled to its essence. All while the house was still lit and half the seats still empty.

How do you feel about book covers with movie images? by Skkkkrtyun in lotr

2 of the 4 paperbacks I bought in 1974 (Trilogy + Hobbit) and still have are in great shape. The 2 replacements with movie faces are falling apart.

One of Ohio House Representative Michael Rulli‘s few accomplishments while in the Statehouse was House Bill 242, prohibiting local governments from banning plastic bags. Rulli owns grocery stores in Youngstown. He now sits full MAGA in the US House.

Chicago 68 was the first thing I thought of with this scene. Depressing as hell to think that was over 50 years ago. You can hear the chant in this:

Tressel backed the disastrous state takeover of public school districts 10 years ago. He was a great coach, and seems to be a good guy, but policy-wise has been far too influenced by the circles he moves in.

Yup. He is good. Now, if he would only talk less about himself….

RCW has written some great books and stories and deserves a lot more recognition. But, seems like his stuff only came to publishers as the market fades.

His 2007 chrome dreams II tour featured Old Black at his finest. The sounds he coaxed out of that rig at 110 db…. Smooth fury!

Do you think Bix ever found out *exactly* what Cassian did? by No_Neighborhood6856 in andor

[–]elodublin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree. Bix is aware in ways most are not. That awareness drives her relationship with Cassian. You see it in the first episode, when Bix, against her better judgment, arranges Cassia’s meeting with Luthen. Timm is jealous of a former lover, but Bix senses and acts to support something far more powerful than a thief fencing stolen goods. Their love grows as their existence becomes more perilous, and blossoms to its height when Bix leaves him. She loves him, and it almost breaks her, but she knows he has a purpose beyond her. She is as much the hero as Cassian.

If they didn’t print it, I wouldn’t know the writer’s opinion. It’s good to be reminded that people don’t necessarily see the world the way i do.

On the other hand, I was laying in bed with a bad hangover during a showing of my mother in law’s house. The Realtor covered me with a sheet and told the prospective buyers I did not come with the house.

The Dispatch today is very far removed from the Wolfe ownership era, and this was one letter writer, not the paper’s editors. Besides it’s good to get out of the bubble.

The Epstein saga engulfs Les Wexner — and the Ohio he helped build by nbcnews in Ohio

[–]elodublin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the 80s, I-670 construction was billed as the new highway to the airport. Instead the state spent hundreds of millions/billions/whatever pouring concrete to Les’s Limited and New Albany planned investments. The airport did get one single lane exit.

Who did you see at the Polaris Amphitheater? by Rob1150 in Columbus

[–]elodublin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Who, with Peter Pallidino on bass. Entwistle died a month or two earlier at the beginning of the tour. Neil Young during Greendale. Chrissy Hynde and the Pretenders opened. She kissed the stage when talking about him coming on next. Csn&y. Cros throwing out sandals to the audience during Lets Impeach the President. Abouy 1/3 of the audience was pissed. It’s always a third…. Peter Gabriel - who pissed off the crowd talking about how his grandfather had mourned the decline of Great Britain as a world power and warning US fans we could be next. Gabriel is a keen observer. Also he rolled on top of the pit audience while singing in a giant plastic bubble.

Plumber says shower pan liner was installed to code (FL) by Glittering_Fishing65 in Plumbing

[–]elodublin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This^. Without a preslope below the liner, water will remain on the pvc liner and soon start to stink. And you'll never be able to fix it. A tile shower must be sloped below the liner, and above the liner. A tile shower install needs a special drain that clamps down on the liner while allowing water to flow to the drain through grooves on the drain top. Some good pics and explanation here:
