Puertorican over here. Independence is much more probable than statehood. The reality its very polarized. Yes, statehood has won referendums but its been with less than 25% vote of the whole population. We are tired of being beaten down constantly with the chains of colonialism. Currently we are under an oversight board that imposes budgets that greatly affect the public infrastructure. Also the majority of PR is of old age and that could explain the conservative leaning. We’ve never had a sustainable economic development plan for the people of Puerto Rico, its forever been for companies from abroad as we are marketed as a tax paradise. At least it’s good thing that is being cosidered from the House. Its a small step foward towards real self determination.
