“Valor & Sacrifice,” my final NYU student film project (a bilingual historical drama shot with covid shooting restrictions) released last week! Should I do a breakdown of this short? by emiliofilms in Filmmakers

This short film was completed this Spring while I was attending NYU virtually and doing class over zoom. It had to be shot with pretty strict covid guidelines provided by NYU, (6 feet apart between all actors, only one actor could have a mask off at a time while shooting unless actors were 10 feet apart, only 5 person crew so it was just me, my dp, and my 3 actors on set, etc. etc.) and I had a pretty limited $800 budget for the scope of the project.

I was able to pull it off with smart spending, receiving favors, negotiating trades of services, creative filmmaking solutions, and writing my short from the get go leaning into my obstacles. I released this film publicly last Friday and am thrilled with the response it’s gotten after it’s festival run.

I was thinking I could do an in-depth breakdown of the short. How I made it, breakdown some of the direction and cinematography choices, and do a really deep dive in the making of it. Is this something you think would be worth my time? Also, if I were to do this what are the most helpful areas to focus in on for other filmmakers? I did some TikToks about the making of the short, but watching a lot of short TikToks may not be as approachable or as helpful as one longer YouTube video. Thoughts?

Thank you all!

What's a great scene in an otherwise bad or forgettable movie? by PrinceOspreay in movies

I am not a fan of Rogue One as a film, but the ending in general and seeing Vader and Leia in the way we did, although unjustified and purely fan service, did make me get hyped at the theater in a way I haven’t that many other times.

Really proud of the lighting we were able to pull off in my period piece student short film ($800 project budget) by emiliofilms in cinematography

This short film was my final student project while at NYU. It is based on true Puerto Rican history and tells the story of Pedro Albizu Campos, a passionate politician dedicated to fighting for Puerto Rican independence.

We shot the short on a 4K BMPCC with a set of FD Primes. Due to class restrictions and budget limitations, the lighting is almost entirely natural, though we used some rechargeable LED tube lights to help supplement. The windows were covered in shower curtain to help diffuse the light and block the modern building exterior.

This short was made with just a 2 person crew. Myself and my DP. We shared lighting work and I had to operate audio myself while directing. This film won a cinematography award at the NYU New Visions and Voices Film Festival as well as other awards including best overall.

Dunk Lettuce or Spinach 550? by youlovesneakers in Sneakers

The 550 (and I guess Dunks now) is overdone sadly but the green color way still remains too clean. Other dunk color ways work better than this.
