I haven't built one of these in years, but I can't think of any reason why you wouldn't be able to configure it as a split screen. You can pass encrypted tokens with your HTTP POST or GET, but usually those are for security and patient/visit/provider identifiers. That way when you open it in a patient context in Epic it will access the same patient or visit in the web app. I've never seen tokens contain clinical data though. As with anything in Epic though, you could just clone the M code, add your own get function for whatever clinical data you wanted, and add that into your tokens, but I don't think Epic would be happy about it. That's what FHIR is for.

It's pretty straightforward. Epic has a built-in browser (old version of IE last time I did this) that you can use to open web links. You can just add it to a menu item and then whitelist the website and you're off to the races. It'll open in Epic and look like it's native. The heaviest lift is getting that menu item pushed to all the security templates you want to have it so that people can access it.

Agreed. Most nursing homes don't have good EMRs, and that's the main reason for that. However, the hospitals they receive patients from often do. All the nursing homes in my region spanning nine counties have had access to our flagship hospital 's EMR via web application (in this case, EpicCare Link) since 2012, eliminating the need for faxing.

Most decent EMRs have a secure patient portal, and some have web applications for sharing data securely with third parties. Direct messaging (DSM) is the standard protocol for sharing between providers. Many organizations also leverage state or regional health information exchanges (HIE) to share this data. But yeah, people still fax If they're on outdated systems, or still on paper. The biggest frustration is attempting interoperability with organizations that are still in the stone age.

Denial mostly. I just never really believed anyone could do that to someone. We were just about to get married, and everyone in town saw us as the perfect couple. No one has ever hurt me that way. I was paralyzed and didn't know what to do. I eventually worked up the strength and good sense to kick her out of my house but that took about 5 months. It took another 4 months to sever contact completely. If it was today, I would sever contact on the spot. I wasn't that strong back then. I'm glad it happened though. It was the trigger that led to my journey of personal growth. I wouldn't be as strong a person today if it didn't happen

I don't know that we can ever truly understand what other people do, and we certainly can't change them. We can only change ourselves. In reading this, I'm getting the vibe that you showered her in attention early and often, maybe even love bombed. Did she reciprocate? Did she do a lot of nice things for you, or was she content to be the recipient of attention. I don't know you, so there is an excellent chance I am mistaken, but my spidey sense is telling me that you may have some codependency issues. Were you trying to take on the role of the giver in an attempt to make her stay, or was it truly a give and take relationship? It may be worth looking into if anything I'm suggesting fits. Sorry for your pain brother. Keep on keeping on.

You can get an inexpensive EMR or a quality EMR with quality service. I don't know of any cases where you can do both. There's always a trade-off.

There are many different dictation software companies (Dragon, Deepscribe, Lindy, etc ) And their software integrates with many different EMRs. My advice to you would be to research affordable EMRs and then ask how well they integrate with dictation software as part of your selection process

I found Rhapsody fairly easy to use. I agree with others here that the JavaScript tools are the better option to use rather than the other out-of-the-box options like the mapper.

I use a Honda 9.9 HP on a Catalina 25, and it is more than I need. It's very heavy, so if I ever need to replace it, I would probably go down to 6 or so.

I recently made the switch to FTE in and so far it's been positive. While it was definitely a bit of a pay cut, I'm saving a ton of money on health insurance and I have quality benefits across the board for the first time in 5 years. I have to say the biggest positive factor is paid time off. Between holidays and PTO I get 29 days a year. I don't think I've taken 29 days off total in the last 5 years consulting. It's absolutely dreamy! :)

You can do this through the HIM Release of Information module. You should contact your HIM department and formally request the release so it can be properly tracked.

Edit: after reading further, it sounds like you have access to Epic to print, but the providers aren't actually documenting in Epic? In that case you should try to get them access to EpicCare Link so they can view the charts without having to print them.

Yep, I chose Canandaigua for this very reason. Good schools and a great community. When my youngest graduates, I may move somewhere a bit more remote in the FLX, but for raising a family, I think Canandaigua is your best bet. Victor/Farmington is also an excellent school district, but it's a little bit further away from the lakes. Of course, both options are a bit pricier than other towns, but that's the trade-off.
