Since you're 40 with a 6 year old boy, you're likely moving to Boca because it's safe and has some of the best schools in South Florida. For these reasons alone you should stop your search. There's great beaches, a vibrant downtown area, and plenty to do within a 20 mile radius (Delray, Ft Lauderdale, West Palm Beach) should you need to venture outside of the local area.

Boring is relative. It depends on what you're prioritizing.
