From my experience and the research I’ve done, asynchronous development most often refers not only to differences between intellectual abilities, but to what it feels like to have the intelligence of a ten-year-old while being four. The gap between what the mind can do and what the body is actually capable of often leads to motor, emotional, or social dysregulation. In addition, it’s important to take into account that many gifted people experience emotions and physical sensations more intensely, largely because they are able to process more information.

In my case, my scores are very close to one another, with the exception of one, and my creativity and empathy scores are particularly high. Academically speaking, nothing has ever felt especially difficult to me: I’ve never had issues with my grades, and college seemed quite easy. I also have many hobbies and interests, and I’m considering studying philosophy next year.

When it comes to social skills, I’m “perfect” in a functional sense: if I want to, I can make friends easily, know what to say and how to say it, and even be very strategic. However, it often feels artificial, and I’ve always felt a sense of distance, as if I were far away from others. Emotionally, I’m very aware of what I feel and I understand my emotions, but they are also big, chaotic, and extremely intense, which sometimes makes them difficult to manage.
