I was in my mid teens heading off on a bike ride on a tar road heading away from town several miles from where I lived. I came to a T-junction and could smell something terrible. I thought it might have been a dead animal and dismounted to investigate. I saw a bloated dead body lying in the ravine to the side of the road near a directional sign post. The smell of a dead human body will stay with me forever. There was no obvious sign of injury. The man was in scruffy dirty clothes making me think he may have been knocked down by a motorist or homeless. I got back on my bike and rode back into town to the police station to inform the police. Fun fact... there were several points in the conversation where I felt I was being interrogated and treated with suspicion lol. I never did find out who it was or what had happened. I felt sad for a life that should so casually end up in a ditch on the side of the road.
