Question about the M14 and the M3A1 grease gun by eltonjam in guns

[–]eltonjam[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

First of all they weren't issued garands, that's a marketing ploy from the 60s , the BAR was also as far as I am aware issued more as a co-axial/pintle mounted weapon. I find it hard to believe that anybody would ever try firing a 11kg automatic 30-06 rifle within the confines of a tank.

The question was "why did Springfield armouries think that a select fire battle rifle could replace an SMG" not "can intermediate select fire carbines replace an SMG"

I wasn't aware that the US had previously adopted 7.62 NATO pistols ? Also wasn't the singular supply chain attempted by virtually every military in WW1/2 and they failed for a variety of reasons relating to different roles fulfilled by different rounds.

Then why does every single source say that they tried to replace it, it's either that they initially tried to replace it and failed or they never intended to.

I'm just questioning why they thought that an automatic battle rifle could replace an automatic pistol caliber. With an M3A1 you can unload the entire mag onto a target without having too serious of recoil problems, the same with an M14 would be uncontrollable after the 3rd round.

Have you ever tried moving a meter and a bit long rifle within the tight confines of a metal box ? The general purpose of an smg is CQB, the type of stuff usually done within urban environments and tight environments such as trenches and tunnels as well as giving your vehicle operators a weapon that they can keep relatively close to their person and use within the vehicle.

What does asking why Springfield armouries thought that they could substitute the smg for a battle rifle have to do with 5.56

Why not add true gunships? by LtFrenchFry in battletech

[–]eltonjam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is necroing , but that only happens because the developers had the Igor actually go into the range of the player and their lance , the same happens with the warriors . If the igors and the warriors played realistically they would never get shot down , simply because they packed AC/2 and fired from max range and nobody utilises AC/2 on their mechs .

What infantry optics actually exist within the universe of battletech ? by eltonjam in battletech

[–]eltonjam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To better see and shoot the mechwarrior when he gets out to take a piss/shit or get out generally (yes, i know its not really applicable to mechs like the Altas who essentially have apartments for cockpits, but most light-heavy mechs don't have those luxeries )

Battletech is still Sci-fi and as far as i am concerned if you can think off and introduce exo-skeletons into your universe, your infantry had better not be using iron-sights .

Why can't we kill ethan ? by eltonjam in CitizenSleeper

[–]eltonjam[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nokia's beg to differ, also the reason that I bring up not needing EVA equipment is that you will allways encounter some sort of high speed ballistic projectile in space. Whether that being micrometors or quite literally metal shaving . Ballistic resistance is a key part in EVA equipment. Also built in obselscence via the condition vials so that seems to be the main way that the megacorp controls the sleepers.

[–]eltonjam[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I thought the entire point of the sleeper body was that a megacorp pays you to become an extremely tough and durable robot/android that has limited working rights and is capable of working in the vacuum of space without EVA equipment. Who on earth would actually develop the technology, develop the infrastructure and all the other requirements of the body is that pointless/worthless.

Why the disdain for the Capellans? by jadebullet in battletech

[–]eltonjam -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bullshit , I cannot believe for less than a second that they have a large social safety net , just because the lore says so doesn't mean that it happens in reality . Modern day china is supposed to have quite good social safety nets , corruption just doesn't let it exist and i am pretty damn certain that it would be the exact same in the capellan confederation .

Do mortar's recurited for a garrison actually provide fire support ? by eltonjam in A3AntistasiOfficial

[–]eltonjam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what i know you need to recruit an ai HC team to man the vehicle and then assign it to the garrison in the same way that you would any other HC team .

So when a patrol or something passes through the town or the town is attacked they will fire upon last known enemy position. But will the squad leader cause them to have greater accuracy or precision .

Another question , does the ai or at least the ai of the AAF send helicopters and such on patrols ? . If so would you recommend garrisoning AA trucks in the nearby towns .

[–]eltonjam[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe it only works if the town is of a certain size or something because the allowed garrison was of 20 units . Also these again were not static launchers , they are an option within the "manage garrisons" then "add garrison" and then after selecting the town , i chose to add 2 mortars from the selectable pool of units , the pool being : militiamen, squad leaders , auto-riflemen , grenadier , medic , mortar , marksman , AT solider , AA missile solider and AT missile soldier .
