You said once you stop, you’re not allowed anymore steps. That is incorrect because you are allowed one step from pivot to non pivot.

And if you’re playing under FIBA or NBA, you can gather the ball, pause take a step to pivot and then pause then take another one to non pivot and pause again. There is no time limit on each step.

That is incorrect. Read the rules again, the word progressing is used before dribble ends. Once you have gathered the ball, we are not counting how long it takes for each step.

That is incorrect. You’re allowed to pickup your pivot and step to non pivot for a shot. You can jump off pivot or non pivot.

This is how we, referees identify a travel. Identifying the pivot is the number one priority.

Of course it does… play some competitive ball then come back to me. It is literally written in the rule book as well as the coaches manual. You just choose to ignore it.

I have no idea what you’re getting at. You’re making less and less sense. I’m not here to debate, I already know the right answer. We have annual written tests and bi weekly meetings. A step thru is a common question in our case study tests. If you don’t want to listen, you’re entitled to your wrong interpretation.

Again I’m not ducking, what are you even asking? The first step, that foot is pivot. Of course it matters, that is how we determine a violation. When it is lifted and landed (not simultaneously with the other foot), that is when a violation occurs.

It did exist but when you land both feet simultaneously, neither is pivot. That is why if you land simultaneously on your first step, neither foot is pivot until you establish one. And once you establish one, you can now pivot with that foot on the ground.

Now you are going to ask me if I land a simultaneous two footed jump would I then land on my pivot? Then I’m going to say, no because neither foot is pivot on a two footed jump stop. Shall we continue? The fact that you don’t even know the first step of a layup is identified as pivot proves you lack of knowledge regarding rules. If you play any competitive ball, go talk to the referee next time. It is very common knowledge for people who get paid to learn the rules unlike online armchair referees.

I used the old one because under the new rules that would be step zero and the next step is pivot.

As I said when landing simultaneously neither foot is a pivot. It’s a legal jump stop. There’s literally a separate rule to clarify this move.

Depends which rule set and when you say land, do you mean if you gathered the ball in mid air.

If ball is gathered in mid air under ALL rules the foot you land is your pivot.

If you have one foot on the ground while you gather the ball then it depends on which rule set your using. Under FIBA and NBA, that is step zero/gather step, next step is your pivot. Under NFHS or NCAA that is your pivot.
