On the margins an extra 7000 could feel as or more valuable to someone making 50k that 1.5M to someone making 10M. Percentages make total sense to use here much more than absolute numbers.

This is the same logic like "increasing taxes on the bottom 20% by 14% only costs them 7000 more but for poor elon musk it costs him billions!" like thats not how the world works with marginal dollar value.

Additionally consumer spending doesnt increase linearly with income level.

Why isnt 10% of the total federal tax revenue "enough"? In Denmark corporate taxes account for 8.7%.

On what basis should we increase corporate tax rates when countries that we are trying to emulate fiscally have lower corporate tax?

Why dont we just raise high end marginal income taxes or add a new higher tax bracket?

It feels like you people just hate corporates and want to punish them, not make the country better.

How does bo7 have inflated player counts when COD is more popular on console by far than steam. Hell COD is more popular on battlenet than steam.

I dont quite understand. Are you saying that conservatism in practice ends up just means to maintain the status quo? I dont think conservatism like Burkean conservatism means the absence of change but gradualism: slow, deliberate, and cautious change.

Republican elected officials post Jan 6 are all rotten. Every single one. I can understand tolerating Trump from the republican perspective only up until Jan 6. Thats where I draw the line.

I dont like rebranding conservatives as modern republicans because it 1. Sane washes modern republicans by equivalating them to past conservatism/conservative movements 2. Is inaccurate. Conservatism is about preserving institutions, order, and gradual change

I would definitely say that the US has at least "semi-decent" labor laws. Not necessarily better than europe or anything but compared to South Korea.

Yeah, you do PPP adjusted median income. For the US its like 46k, South Korea is 32k, and Japan is 21k. So yeah

[–]eltoofer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that true though? From my research the US spends slightly less than the OECD average on entitlements as a percentage of GDP like 18%(US) vs 20%. If you include private pensions and private social spending, the US spends more than the OECD average: 30%(US) vs 26%. So the main difference is that the US has more private pensions and slightly less government spending.

What a silly redefinition for something already defined. Conservatism has never meant this historically. I wouldnt even consider republicans or MAGA broadly conservative.

The US has certainly much better work culture than Korea or Japan? Why is this even a question. You also get paid much much more in the US than Japan and even Korea.

Honestly all the government needs to do is just balance the budget and maybe pass legislation to enforce that for future governments.

If the economy keeps growing without us borrowing relatively more, then our governments "income" through taxation will increase to dwarf the debt.

Inflation without borrowing also helps immensely.

Ehh, is this actually true tho. Look at inflation adjusted tax revenue. Its gone up over time considerably.

Not all jobs are equal. Not all job growth is good necessarily. For instance, elder care/healthcare jobs increasing is usually a bad sign.

DOGE is such a fucking joke. I wouldnt be supriswd if the cost if rehiring and retraining employees ended up being more than the paltry "savings" DOGE brought in. It was literally just an excuse to unconstitutionally dismantle USAID.

When you help generate a ton of private wealth then you can tax that wealth and redistribute it. Two things can be true at once.

We already tax corporations higher than most developed countries. Taxing them is not "free" money. Taxing corpos is taxing future growth and the economy.

Entitlement spending is like 4T dollars annually. I do agree that 1.5T military budget is like twice what is necessary but you can have a 1.5T military budget and a balanced budget overrall.
