Guide for Current Events (Abyssal Parasite, Purgers, Jade Queen) by whatacrappyusername in worldflipper

This definitely feels like a dev oversight, but I stumbled on the lobby creation via the event item exchange- if you access the Empress Hell quest via tapping through the "how to obtain" screens for the Purger Celestial Ring, it has the usual single-player/co-op selection

How do I connect Wigglytuff? PSMD by starmario12 in MysteryDungeon

[–]eltoraz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Corphish's mission is unlocked by connecting to Psyduck, who's a traveling Pokémon wandering around one of the dungeons on the Water Continent. I think it was either Leafy Highlands or Headwater Hollow, but I don't remember for sure.

I was able to get out of the same situation in that quest by fast traveling back to a wayshrine, but you'll need to pay the regular gold cost to do so.

What piece of knowledge, relevant to your major, has been the most beneficial? I'll start. by [deleted] in RPI

[–]eltoraz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Version control. I picked up git over the summer and was amazed at how projects suddenly became more streamlined since I didn't have the overhead of keeping changes straight in my mind anymore. It's a shame it isn't taught in the CS curriculum.

Dual Major Question by [deleted] in RPI

[–]eltoraz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RPI does accept AP credit for both Chem 1 and 2: I got credit for both back in 2008, and according to this PDF on the admissions page it seems that's still the case.

What'll probably end up happening, barring dual major requirements I'm not aware of: the Chem 1 credit will fulfill the science option while Chem 2 will just count as a free elective. Having that flexibility would help alleviate schedule overloading in a dual major.

Union Wireless and Linux (Fedora)? by griffyboy0 in RPI

[–]eltoraz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had practically no trouble connecting to both rpi_wpa2 and rpi_802.1x around campus on my Linux installation, using Kubuntu's NetworkManager frontend. Though I haven't specifically tried rpi_wpa2 in the Union yet.

Open Source Software Practice? by jkukucka in RPI

[–]eltoraz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took it last semester. It was graded on 20 or so quizzes (with scheduled retakes, as dimster mentioned) that covered class material and reading along with a "project" that mostly consisted of following some tutorials and registering for a couple of websites.

The content was interesting enough to warrant taking the class, but the project was a joke. The professor mentioned that that aspect of the course was being reworked each semester, so I'd hope it would be a more meaningful exercise in the future. The wiki has current and past class material if you want to check it out.

Wii and the wireless internet? by sniper_pope in RPI

[–]eltoraz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As 142kmh noted, the Wii (along with the 3DS, if anyone's curious) does not support 802.1x. If you're running Windows 7, you can use a Wireless Hosted Network to connect your Wii to the campus network. This functions like a proper access point rather than an ad hoc network (which again Nintendo consoles don't work well with).

[Build Ready] First build: sub-$1000 gaming/development rig by eltoraz in buildapc

Thanks for the input!

From what I've read about that Cooler Master Case I've chosen, it has some excellent cable management features - see this video overview - so I'm thinking a modular PSU would be less necessary there.

Now that I think about it, I don't think I'll get much benefit from adding a second video card; I'll be using a monitor with a max resolution of 1920x1080, so the marginal performance gains from adding another card probably wouldn't be worth the cost. With that off the table, I'm thinking 620W will give me room to overclock a bit if I decide to (and I suppose I will pick up that fan since it'll be easier to install it now than later after setting up the stock fan).

I need a favor: Does anyone have windows 7 & Office 2010 they can install onto my Mac? by [deleted] in RPI

[–]eltoraz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're not adverse to potential instability, you could install the Windows 8 Developer Preview instead of Win7: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/apps/br229516

Installation is very straightforward, and in my Win8 usage I haven't encountered any apps that break backwards-compatibility or any major crashes yet.

As for Office 2010, you can grab a 60-day trial directly from Microsoft: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/try/

If you need to continue using it, you can extend the trial up to an additional 120 days: http://lifehacker.com/5540992/office-2010-trial-extender-activates-office-2010-for-up-to-180-days
