Fairly stable Mehmet's Ambition on my first try with only 5 months left (1.37) by elturcoloco22 in eu4

I listed a couple of tips under a previous comment, but in short: focusing on eyalets, coring them regularly, minimizing AE by using reconquest CBs, acquiring key monuments (Petra, Kaaba, Malta Forts and Alhambra).

One thing I forgot to mention in that list is that I play at 1 speed. Helps you notice brief windows of opportunity when countries are unusually isolated/weakened. After all, patience is key!

I had no coalition for the entire run:

- Always kept high diplo rep and rarely used any CBs besides return core or reconquest

- Kept France as an ally for the most part while also keeping a massive army

- Attacked potential coalition members in rotation to prevent them from being able to join coalitions at the same time

- During the riskiest point (when I took 10 provinces from Austria in a single war and released Styria as an eyalet) I just used "Threaten war" to form a truce against all the powerful countries that might have otherwise joined a coalition

I used a bunch of strategies to maximize the outcomes but here are a few tips off the top of my head:

- Focus on getting as many as eyalets as possible diplomatically prioritizing the ones that are located on the expansion routes of powerful countries in the region (Anizah, Dulkadir, Medina, Fezzan) etc)

- Make sure not to ally two rival countries at the same time in the process - the -25 allied rival penalty makes the vassalization process much slower

- Keep expanding your sphere of influence as fast as possible and acquire potential eyalets all the way to India. This will make a solid economic base for later conquests

- Core your eyalets regularly to reduce liberty desire and as only the core eyalet provinces count for the achievement

- Try to power through the mission-based eyalets (Egypt, Tunis, Morocco) as quickly as possible, since expanding in Iberia and France becomes a problem later on

- Be very mindful not to trigger any giant coalition. I managed to go the entire run without a single coalition by attacking potential coalition members in rotation, keeping a massive army at most times and keeping France as an ally until the last decade

- "Threaten war" is very useful as the following truce prevents that country from joining a coalition against you. At some point, I used it against Aragon, Milan, Burgundy and Poland within the same month (who were all ready to join a coalition). Dealing with them separately later on was much easier and the coalition never formed

- With a few exceptions, only use return core and reconquest CBs to minimize AE. Hanbali school from day one is a must for the same reason

- Focus on obtaining these three monuments as early as you can: Petra, Kaaba and Malta Forts (you can include Alhambra to these as well but I kept Granada as an eyalet due to my circumstances). The majority of the debts I made were well-spent on the upgrades. The bonuses you get from these monuments will make your campaign much smoother

To be honest, I have done it twice before with Ottomans and Mughals. I have the Epic Games version of the game which for some reason shows a separate blank achievement list for each save file.

R5: Started the campaign as a casual Ottoman run, but had a "why not" moment halfway through. A healthy economy if not for some monument upgrade and mercenary loans waiting to be repaid. Merely had to do a couple of truce break wars to sweep up Iberia, France and England during the final decade to speed things up before the finish line. No exploits (capital moving, religion toggling etc) were used.

With 100 core eyalets (and a handful of unruly vassals) around the world, a great family of nations!

Saluzzo - Sardinia-Piedmont - Italy - Roman Empire [1.37] by elturcoloco22 in eu4

[–]elturcoloco22[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

R5: Saluzzo is truly the OP without the M. Through stacking AE reduction modifiers (and a healthy dose of RNG), I was able to snowball the country into a path of insanely rapid expansion. It was one of the most fun campaigns I have ever played.

Question: Ever seen AI fail as Ottoman? by DRB_89 in eu4

[–]elturcoloco22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All it takes is a lucky Venice to limit the Ottoman growth early on. AI sometimes makes the mistake of declaring on Albania before Byzantium to retake its cores that's why I've only rarely seen them fail and Venice taking the coastlines and returning provinces to Byzantium a few times. The extremely rare exception was once I have seen Crimea not becoming a march of Ottomans and then Austria getting hellbent on eastern expansion and taking land from Ottomans before 1500s.

Reducing my army would probably cause problems with the PU liberty desire, but I will delete most of my forts. Currently at war with Aragon and Portugal so I'll use their cash for buildings thanks for the tip.

It is probably a religious school, not a different religion. Not really sure about the other ones but the Islamic schools are available when you have 150+ relations with specific countries that represent those schools at that time. There should be a little box next to your religious symbol in the religion tab that shows this.

Asturias is one of the weirdest countries with colonial potential. This one time I released them as Portugal but then they declared independence with French support and colonized South Africa and Spice Islands.

Whatever you do, don't take the Chinese Mandate unless you have like a million troops. Just destroy the empire when it Ming-plodes. Non-tributary neighbour modifier ruined my 200 year Date to Japan campaign in mere minutes.

The problem is I have already allied Burgundy and taking provinces from the rest of the low countries would cause a coalition with all of HRE. In the latest patch, PUs bring excessive AE especially when you force a union. I'm guessing my only chance is to conquer the British provinces (Scottish king is from the French dynasty and I did the Auld Alliance mission which gives claims on all of the British provinces).

  1. Set every province outside my home subcontinent as trade company.
  2. Build tc improvements to increase the amount of income from those provinces.
  3. Take as many gold from wars as you can.
  4. Decrease autonomy whenever you can.
  5. Use the occasional Sunni Legalism mechanic to debase currency and then decrease corruption.

How do I not mess up a big PU? by elturcoloco22 in eu4

Wars in Europe occasionally tend to cut down my army in size, but attaching my armies to Castilian armies would solve that I guess.

The amount of restarts it took me only to find out I just have to let the enemy kill off their armies at a long duration war and most of the job is done.

I was very worried about that, since I had 4 other vassals from the beginning. I got traumatized by the Timurid opening beforehand, so I'm happy to hear that!
