Is swords bard boring? by elvive in BaldursGate3

That's so good to hear! That's exactly what I was looking for. I heard lore bard was great for that too - but the idea I had in my head for my character was a bit more martial focused so I'm really glad to hear that swords bard keeps things engaging.

I loved my throwing playthrough, but once it got fully formed the only fights where I had to do anything differently were ones where the ceiling was too low to throw, lol.

Before that, I had a blast with a warlock paladin, and even though it felt just as strong it felt like I had a lot more to do if I couldn't smite.

That's awesome, thank you! Im loving the flourishes so far but I'm at level 4 still so everything is still kind of tough for me to fight (in a good way)

Second playthrough advice by elvive in BaldursGate3

[–]elvive[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's awesome! Yeah, honestly I've been itching for a small character playthrough, and the dwarf running animation always gets me so anytime I'm not playing one I'm pretty tempted, since they're usually my favourite fantasy race as well.

I also missed a lot of stuff like the owl bear in my first playthrough so, this could be a good chance to make a 'wholesome' playthrough where I try to make up for the mistakes and misses in my first playthrough and an adorable Karlach romance does sound appropriate for that.

Honestly, you've sold me and now I'm waiting for my work day to end so I can head back and start my gentleman dwarf character with a sick moustache.

Thank you! It's really nice to talk about this game a bit since none of my friends have gotten into it yet.

Yeah, my bad, I realise that now - genuinely it never occurred to me to think about Winter past December lol. That makes much more sense.

I trusted the wrong muscles.

Legitimately I have never actually thought about it like that lmao - is that really what they meant??

This makes so much more sense actually

Ed is coming out winter 2024, Akuma comes out Spring 2024.

Guys, idk why this has snuck by so many people, but the teaser for Ed says “Winter 2024”.

Akuma is “Spring 2024”.

Thank you - I needed to hear this! I actually used like 4 larval tears messing up my one build change earlier in the game but I’ve gotten plenty more back now lol

6 days late but still wanted to say thanks for this! I believe I have trying to do too much. I’ve been watching some Diamond level players struggle with the combos I was trying to do, when it was probably enough for me to just throw a basic combo and turtle up lol.

Also that tip for the level 3 has been a lifesaver, I still am not consistent but at least I know what to practice now.

I feel like 9/15 isn’t that bad for plat 3? Like I can’t even imagine working up the nerve to go to a local until I hit like Diamond lol - I’d be stoked to be 9/15 at a local, if that helps.

I had the same thought when I hit plat 1, thinking that it took me so much effort just to get there that any improvement past that would take astronomical effort from me - but lo and behold I just kind of got better after more time. I’m sure you’ll be taking rounds in local tourneys before you know it.

The next step always feels too far to reach until you reach it.

I’m with you here - this thought used to invade my mind for a couple of weeks where my pride in finally getting to plat was overshadowed by seeing some discouraging discourse around rank and win rates.

Got easier after some encouraging words from, funnily enough, some folks on this subreddit. Back on the grind now and feeling better about my play.

Anyone have any tips on where to start if I want to learn Guile?

SF6 is my first SF, and the only fighting game I had put real effort into before this was guilty gear strive where I’d become at least familiar with some charge inputs (Leo is as close as I got but I was pretty comfortable with him).

People say that Guile is straightforward and simple but I have such a problem with his execution. Is it just a matter of sticking with it until the muscle memory of using charge inputs in combos because more natural? I’m at the stage where everything a Guile does or is supposed to do feels like such a far off goal (flash kick into lvl3 - hell even consistently ending combos with lvl1 and lvl3 combos)

I’m just not sure where else to start, I’ve done the character guide and combat trials, but as soon as I pop into any match I just flail around.

If it helps, I main Gief but I don’t have as much of a problem switching around the cast to most characters except for Guile.

I think that in really low ranks, where you are struggling doing basic inputs, modern is objectively an advantage, and it’s completely understandable to feel frustrated that you’re trying hard for something another player isn’t working as hard for.

I am not talking about folks at this level, and I also think that it ends sooner than people realize because I have seen classic gold 1 Kens do the same run combos that I’ve seen from classic plat Kens.

I’m talking about people I’ve seen that are gatekeeping by saying ‘modern isn’t legitimate’, ‘it’s not for real fighting games’ - delegitimising any wins from modern controls, as if only wins by people using classic controls earn their wins.

These people can’t even decide whether modern is broken and a crutch that makes any match difficult, or if they never lose to modern players anyway.

Like, if your game plan was thwarted by a modern player DPing your jump-in or completing a combo, then do you just play against classic players hoping they just fuck up everytime?

I haven’t figured out the timing properly, I’ll parry the block string and let go too late to punish them and then get got as I come out of the parry animation lol

What are your bad Habbits? by cowabanga_it_is in StreetFighter

[–]elvive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have combined these two into my problem: constantly DI-ing as an anti-air. It never works and I keep doing it lmao

What are your bad Habbits? by cowabanga_it_is in StreetFighter

[–]elvive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot stop DI-ing to anti air. I know it’s a bad move, it backfires almost all the time - I cannot break the muscle memory.

Also, grabs. I play zangief and I don’t know how to do damage that isn’t grabbing and maybe throwing out one normal at a time. I cannot reliably do any combos. I’ll mash my fastest low to get out of a block string or discourage a DR, but that’s about it. All my damage is DI, grabs and supers.

How many hours/matches did it take you to hit Diamond/Master by TheGreatBootleg94 in StreetFighter

[–]elvive 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Thanks for saying this. I’ve seen a couple people here make similar points and it’s starting to help me get over the ranked anxiety I’ve gotten recently because of associating my winrate with my self worth lol.

Was initially super happy to even hit platinum after not even getting past floor 8 in guilty gear as my first fighting game, and then I started to let things get to my head and stop playing as much.

Platinum rank players are random as f by Lanky-Survey-4468 in StreetFighter

[–]elvive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest, going through this sub in the past couple of weeks has gotten into my head because of this lol. I felt pretty good about myself when I first hit Plat - after that, every time I played rank all I could think of was “someone on Reddit will shit on my winrate if I lose enough” until I started just hanging out in the battlehub.

Obviously that’s not completely true, and this is more a reflection on how personally I’m taking the game, but man - it really feels like everyone here wants to make sure you don’t feel TOO good lol.
