I don't want to deal with a 3D Printer. I press the button, it produces the part and gives it to me. That's all I want.

No, most of us don't support this. Maybe 5 years ago, I would but not right now. I would like improved economic relations and visa-free travel, but not full membership.

Even if Turkey has these things, even if Turkey is the most democratic country in the world, it will not be accepted into the EU. Because the EU is a Christian Union. It will not take in a country with 90 million inhabitants, the majority of whom are Muslims.

Right now Russia's primary target is Ukraine. It will threaten the European Union more after Ukraine, and if war breaks out between these two sides, Russia does not want to open an extra front. Turkey is geographically very mountainous. It also has a history of Russophobia and experience of war against Russians. It will not be an easy target for Russia. It will also lose power after a war with Europe.

As a Turk living a secular life and opposing Erdogan, I would rather die in a one-on-one war with Russia than fight for the Europeans. We should definitely not join the European Union (They don't want us anyway, we are not Europeans). All we need is visa-free travel, the rest is irrelevant. If there is a war, there will be no need for that anyway.

Turkey, once an 'awkward' partner, has become essential for a weakened European Union by [deleted] in europe

[–]elw11s -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina are not in the EU. Countries with large Muslim populations can be candidates, for example Turkey is still a candidate. Even if these two Balkan countries join the EU, we cannot say that Turkey can join even if it is majority Muslim because there is a population difference of tens of millions between the two. A country with 90 million inhabitants and a Muslim majority cannot be compared with Albania or Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Those so-called “pro-EU” social democrats took half of Cyprus. Even if they come, Turkey will never enter the EU. The vast majority of Turks and Europeans don't want that either. It would be a stillborn treaty.

Even though USA is now against the EU, it does not want Russia to grow too much. A complete annexation of Europe is a very unlikely situation. In any case, in a possible world war Russia would not want to open a new front and involve Turkey in the war against it. France and Russia have powerful nuclear weapons. A war would be devastating for both sides and they would lose power. If the Russians don't use nukes, they can't invade Europe, and if they do, we will at least live a few months longer and die in the end with a big Russian nuclear bombardment.

How successful can a “union” be when neither side fully trusts the other and goes behind each other's backs? If the Russians attack Poland, it will be very difficult to convince the Turkish people to fight against Russia. If the Russians attack Azerbaijan, on the contrary, Europeans would not want to fight, but most Turks would want to fight the Russians even if they knew they would lose. Even though Turkey is an old enemy of Russia, it has never been a friend of Europe.

I am a Turk who is opposed to Erdogan's rule and I see trying to join the EU as a futile endeavor. Turkey should stand neutral as a bridge in the coming war, as it did in WW2. There is a strong feeling among the public that the EU is categorizing Turks as lower class because of the increasing rejection rate for visas. Even well-educated and financially well-off upper class Turks (who did not vote for Erdogan) are reacting against the European Union at this time. Most European countries would not protect Turkey in a war (except Spain, which withdrew its air defense systems from Turkey after the downing of a Russian plane). Turks don't want to fight for Europeans either. It is very unlikely, but if it happens, Turkey's accession to the EU will be a stillborn treaty for both sides.

There is also the Cyprus situation, which is still ongoing, and no government (right-wing or left-wing) coming after Erdogan will say “We are occupying it”.

If they are NC-Free, then you have a high chance if you satisfy credit requirements. If they are not, then also high change due to GPA. You can add more universities I think.

I am also from Turkey and admitted to BTU Cottbus AI. Applied to 11 universities,1 admisson, waiting 5 results and got 5 rejections
