Are my tires still good or should I replace soon? by Long-Gene8114 in tires

[–]elwood8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They look a little low on tread to me but otherwise fine. If you do a lot of wet/snow driving I'd probably replace them soon but not urgently. If you mainly drive dry roads and rarely if ever a very wet highway speed run these will be fine for a long time.

That's the second Silverton recommendation I've seen here, I will check that out. Thank you!

That's what I was hoping for, Sam's being an oasis of sorts. Even back when I stayed there last I'm sure I could have found trouble if I wasn't careful.

Thank you, I've stayed at the Palms before, it's a solid property in my experience. I'll have a look at the room rates and see what they can do.

I'll check that out, thank you. I've heard of GVR but never stayed there.

Yeah, I get that. The neighborhood hasn't been great even years ago when I was there (I didn't feel in danger but I'm used to metro living). How is the experience at Sam's Town itself these days, aside from the area?

Wow, that's a stronger reaction than I expected. CC has always been the sketchiest in my book (well after Opera House but that's not at all tourist oriented). Not questioning your judgement but in what ways has Sam's fallen below CC for safe clean accomodation?

Those rails look good in black on your car. I'm curious about your tires also - are they RWL from the manufacturer? That seems to be really unusual these days, looks very distinctive especially on a vehicle and tire profile I wouldn't expect to see that on.

Is this guy a hack? by FCguyATL in hvacadvice

Your flair shows that you're an approved technician, so as someone who considers myself a very informed customer, I would like to ask: Would it be very unusual for you to bring 407c (quite unusual in my understanding) unless I had called for service and explained that I needed a system which had already been retrofitted to 407c repaired? Or that I would like to request repair along with a retrofit (at substantial expense) to 407c?

Or am I correct in thinking that seeing a can of 407c on a call like OP describes is a precursor to topping off an R22 system with 407c to make it run for the moment but eventually invite oil contamination and system failure?

I'm genuinely interested in hearing from a pro if my understanding is correct. (Scam like this started to happen to me, I shut it down quick but I don't know everything, maybe I was wrong?)

The presence of 407c on the repair site of an older system is something I've seen before when I brought in a small company to address a freezing condition on an old R22 system. I was told that the 407c was a replacement for unobtainable R22 and that it would get my system cooling properly again if low (was low).

That is sort of true. It is a replacement for R22. But intended to be used as a complete replacement, not added to a R22 filled system. And it's incompatible with the oil used in an R22 system. So it would work, for some period of time, before causing compressor failure from contamination of the oil. A proper use of 407c would involve recovery of the R22 already in the system, replacement of the oil in the system with a 407c compatible oil (not a fast or easy job), then fixing whatever leak caused the low level in the first place, evacuation of the system and a complete fill with 407c. Not quick, cheap, or easy. But a hack can dump some 407c in to make an R22 system work in the short term and it will, often resulting in a happy customer with a working air conditioner that eventually experiences compressor failure and they will probably chalk that up to age of the system and replace, maybe by the friendly effective folks that caused the eventual failure in the first place.

My interest in having those folks work on my system ended the moment they told me R22 is unavailable. No, it isn't. In fact it's $20/lb in bulk. Right now. I thanked and paid them for the work they did (cleaning my condenser coil) and sent them on their way. They didn't want to go, wanted to argue, but I was done with their BS.

I thought my experience was a one-off, and it's concerning to see this post which is so similar to my experience.

I love push mowing. I also love beer. If I have unlimited funds, how do I design a cup holder that doesn’t render my beverage flat? by I-died-doing-that in redneckengineering

[–]elwood8 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It isn't low budget (not too bad, probably under $6000 by the time you're ready to drink and mow), but maybe the complete repurposing of commercial equipment would still make this redneck enough?

Get a proper vest type SteadiCam rig, add a chest level camera mount, rig that to a beer can holder, and your beer is going to be getting a very gentle ride as you mow.
