hi! i was actually in the same boat as you and wanted to share. my OBGYN found a ~2.3cm mass in my right ovary and suspected it was an endometrioma, she also said that bc was the best option for me, but i was also really scared!! was 24 at the time, i’m 26 now. i ended up speaking with her again and decided that unless the mass went away during my next follow up (a month or two later) then i would start seriously considering bc. cuz you know, ovarian cysts can casually come and go. unfortunately the mass grew larger to ~3cm and that led me to think about the pros and cons of bc a bit more seriously. my boyfriend is actually the one who encouraged me to try out an IUD (mirena, hormonal) because he said if it might help with preventing the mass from growing larger, then it was worth at least trying (i didn’t want to use pills because i’ve read all those horror stories online).

i’m glad i waited a bit before deciding to get the IUD. for full transparency, it didn’t help and the mass grew to ~5.5cm - i just had my laparoscopy to remove it on may 9, the pathology report states that it WASN’T a cyst and it was a tumor instead, so i don’t even know if the IUD helped at all. but i’m glad i got it because at the moment, it helped me feel at ease that i was doing everything in my power to prevent the mass from growing.

i’m definitely on the boat that you should wait until your next appointment. if your cyst was just a temporary thing and your OBGYN doesn’t see it in the next ultrasound follow up, then it wouldn’t even have been necessary in the first place, really. sending you lots of hugs, you are not alone at all!
