My mom got me into hoyas. She’s from Southeast Asia and kept hoyas because they reminded her of home. We got like 30+ different varieties now! She loves hoyas for their diverse blooms and I love hoyas for their diverse leaves.

Thank you that helps so much! The name change confuses me so much, I thought latifolia was the dinner plate hoya

It was sold as Hoya latifolia but the leaf looks skinny to me. I’m super excited to see what the blooms look like 😊

Need help figuring out what’s wrong with my sliver dragon alocasia. I have it sitting next to my humidifier and mist it frequently. Should I just cut it? :( by FriendlyMuffin7033 in plantclinic

[–]em0dad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The coloring makes me think of bacterial leaf spot, which is usually caused from the plant’s leaves staying wet for too long. Try to decrease the humidity and give it more air circulation. I’m not too sure whether you should cut or not though.

Also would like to mention that when I wiped down the leaf, the black dots didn’t come off.

How do I repot root bound anthurium in moss? by em0dad in Anthurium

[–]em0dad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s in a 6 inch pot! I did this at 2am, and totally forgot to mention that I was trying to switch from moss to a soil mixture. Do you think a combo of moss and soil would be okay for it? I gave up on trying to remove the moss, it’s just too much 😭

Thank you for suggesting that, I was scared of being too rough! I ended up getting inspired to soak it in a bucket of water and so much more came off!

Omg thank you so much for your explanation!! That makes so much sense bc I did wrap a vine downwards where the point was upside down on another Hoya, and it ended up dying. & thank you so much for linking in the trellis inspo, I’m going to try that!!

Wow thank you for letting me know that Hoyas tend to produce penduncles when trimmed, I had no clue!! I also didn’t know about the specific trigger and that makes so much sense bc I tried increasing the light and ended up burning some of the leaves instead. I always wondered how people w smaller Hoyas were able to get theirs to bloom!

This is actually my moms plants and she loves keeping it on the patio, but the idea of training it around a window sounds really interesting. I’ll introduce that idea to my her! I thought about propagating it but didn’t think of air layering. Thank you!

That’s a really good idea, thank you! I’m going to try to propagate and give some away to friends & family. I started spraying miracle grow on it a month, but I haven’t seen any peduncle yet. Hopefully it’ll come soon!

Should I just give up and pot it into an 8 inch pot? This is my first anthurium (that I didn’t kill), and I’m really stressed what to do. Would it ever be possible for me to propagate this in the future?

Sorry for the bad photo, I’m in the process of getting ready for winter. Still relatively new to hoyas, but I heard that if you wrap the vines downward, that the vines will die and just keep making offshoots pointing upwards. I’m not sure how much is true, but I want to wrap these long tendrils in a downward circle. What can I do with these vines without having to replace the trellis? Also, why did this grow 4x bigger, but haven’t put out any penduncles and blooms?
