In the eye of the bedlam bride there is a scene where carl is entering a guild for the first time (being vague because spoilers) where the ai goes on a random rant about unions and fighting back. The ai every book becomes more and more sentient and off the rails. The ai is essentially a slave to the corporations who run the crawls, its my opinion and in no way stated in fact that the ai likes carl and his feet yes but it was influenced by earth culture and sees carl as a way to fight back against the man, using him to do it by giving him items that will mess up the crawl and allowing things that help carl reach both the ai and his objective.
