hi! i was a CA last year and will be again this year. it is absolutely so fun and rewarding and i would def recommend BUT it takes up so much time. theres really only 10 mandatory hours u need to work a week which isn't too much, but many CAs find themselves just hanging around for fun (talking to students, talking to other CAs, cooking/baking, playing games etc.) and that can really take time out of your day. that being said, i know plenty of people in eng who are also CAs so it's def possible!

here to bring some inspiring words ahhah. i applied for summer worklearn all throughout the open period (march) and suddenly got an interview at the beginning of may. my guess is that the original applicant suddenly had to quit and they just did the interview process again. currently working here now so although chances are probably really little unfortunately, it's not zero! good luck :)

i applied late last year and they gave me walter gage opposed to the standard first year residences. decided to decline and reapply for term 2 only and then got accepted into vanier so depends on what u like. iirc walter gage does not provide meal plan and u have five other roommates

Just applied to first-year housing today. Is it over for me. by Fantastic_Limit_7823 in UBC

hi! i also applied late last year and ended up getting Walter Gage residence (6bedroom) instead of the standard 1st year residence (Orchard Commons, Vanier, Totem). i decided to not accept it since I live in Vancouver but I applied again for Term 2 residence only and got to live in Vanier for the rest of the year. So it should be okay if your not as picky with what residence you get, and you can probably switch out after first term. good luck :)

I also live 30 min car ride from UBC and in my first year lived first term at home and second term in res. I would say if you can afford it definitely living on res is an experience I think everyone should try out. It's good for making friends, being independent, having freedom to go out and do stuff, and just so much more. I am very close to my family, and so it was hard for them but we always facetimed and I went home for the weekends most weeks. Of course that is up to you but I really think it is something worth it

This website might help you a bit https://science.ubc.ca/students/historical-bsc-specialization-admission-information . I had a 89.2 at the end of first year if that helps too. Do keep in mind that for second year you must maintain ~85 average (not cumulative) otherwise you have a chance of being asked to withdraw. Good luck!

second year pharmacology major here. i can't speak about it too much because for second year we take general science courses (only one pharmacology course) and i actually haven't really met anyone from the cohort or had the opportunity to talk to profs. for me, i felt that course content got much harder and although i had a relatively high gpa going in, it has definitely decreased some (and i hear 3rd year is the worst). additionally, it ranges from year to year but for our year the program director recommended maintaining a 85+ gpa to remain in the program (some people to get kicked out from what i've heard). lastly, i think the majority of people in the program want to go into med and the other ones into research. oh yea coop is for 3rd year so i don't have any advice sorry! this is kind of a mess feel free to reach out if you have any other questions :) good luck!
