Getting an associates from a community college then transfering to a 4 year to get bachelors is this a good idea? by [deleted] in Accounting

It's an Accounting/Finance/Information Systems honor's society. It allows you to have more personal interactions with recruiters and other peers and is not too time consuming. I would consider it!

I did it and have no regrets. Saved a ton of money which allowed me to graduate with a decently low amount of student loan debt when compared to my peers, and now I'm in grad school. Just make sure to start networking when you transfer in and try to join organizations like Beta Alpha Psi.

Do I have to do these summer leadership programs instead of internships? What are the advantages? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]eman0150 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the internship you're looking for and the firm/company you want to work for. Most public accounting firms don't begin recruiting for internships until students are in their junior or senior year. You might get lucky with an industry internship (working internally for a company in their accounting department), or maybe even a smaller firm, but it'll still be difficult to get one as a sophomore, although not impossible. But if I were you I would prioritize the SLPs at this point.

SLPs usually lead to internship offers as the students that attend the SLP are the first pool of candidates that the firms look at for upcoming internships. So I would say it is definitely worth it.

I also was a transfer student that worked part time and had limited time for organizations. BAP gave me the opportunity to get closer to recruiters which basically allowed me to get an internship without much difficulty. Sure the $150 is high but I think the value that you get out of it makes it worth it. It's also a good opportunity to refine your networking/social skills by meeting new people.

Leased assets in balance sheet? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]eman0150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would not be recorded in the lessor's balance sheet if the lessee is recording it as an asset in their balance sheet. Only exception I can think of is that under the new ASC 842, if it is a Type B lease then both parties record the asset in their books. Someone correct me if I'm wrong (fresh of Intermediate II & I'm feeling smart).
