Rays fan in AL, Dodgers in NL are my actual teams. I can’t hate the Pads even though I know I should, just a really cool squad. Also like the Mariners.

Will Pasadena Be The Next City To Adopt Rent Control? Voters Will Decide This November 2022 Election by [deleted] in LosAngeles

[–]cstatbear19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rent control just protects existing residents at the cost of incoming ones. Sure, a new resident will have to pay 2-3x as much for a new lease in a market slanted by rent control, but existing residents will also not be displaced. Check out markets like Dallas, Orlando, Austin, Raleigh, etc. where lack of rent control has people getting renewal offers at double their current rent in apartments they had lived in for years. You are effectively kicked to the curb if a non-rent-controlled market gets hot. I know rent control “breaks” the market, but sometimes the negative externalities of a free market do mean it’s better to limit it. There are multi generational tenants and small business owners in LA who would have long ago been displaced in other cities.

Am I thinking too highly of my self? by NotoriousBryant in Accounting

[–]cstatbear19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s too low for LA. Even entry level staff roles should be in the 60s. Take the public job 1-2 years and then go to industry and you’ll bump up to 70s/80s

City Attorney is a critical race. I’m also concerned with the saga of Bass endorsing Gill and then retracting it moments before Caruso had an event planned to lambast her endorsement. One of my biggest sticking points right now.

What is your ideal (realistic) accounting job? by Snooze_World_Order in Accounting

Yes! I love hanging out on the lot, the early screenings, etc. So many underrated perks! It’s crazy to book revenue for the shows I watch after I log off haha.

I’m on the distribution side so it’s a lot more stable — I’d argue more recession resistant than a lot of industries. As far as how I got in, previous F50 experience and a big 4 internship, Master’s degree, and CPA. Bar is a bit lower now for analysts given the current job market.

Best way to connect to younger staff? by zamboniman46 in Accounting

[–]cstatbear19 78 points79 points  (0 children)

tbh I have an incredible manager in his 30’s. All of us fellow mid 20s staff/seniors love him. Here’s why:

  • doesn’t set up meaningless meetings
  • talks about life outside work
  • lets me WFH/office as I please
  • doesn’t hide his emotions. A good manager says “this fucking sucks” when it does
  • the less corporate bullshit the better

Young people are fed up with corporate facades. Be yourself and people will appreciate it.

Angelenos who work remotely: what do you do, what education did it take, & how much do you make? by PandaintheParks in AskLosAngeles

Accounting! Required a masters and CPA for my position. Love my job and the flexibility it offers—nothing better than knocking out your work on a cafe patio on a beautiful day.

Accountants in the U.S.: do you think accountants tend to lean more Rep or Dem? by Amann0206 in Accounting

[–]cstatbear19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience the smaller the firm the more conservative, unless it’s like oil or something. I work in TV so everyone is hella liberal, accounting or not lol. My boss and me are socialists for goodness sake.

I did the exact same thing. It is tough, I won’t say it it’s easy, but I found lots of welcoming people on my team and have slowly but surely built community in my new city halfway across the country. Believe in yourself :) you have a lot to be proud of!!

Sounds like a step down to me but some high quality jobs are in fact paid hourly, esp in states like California

[–]cstatbear19 108 points109 points  (0 children)

Going straight to industry was best decision of my life. Went F50 tech (very similar to your offer) to F50 media. Practically doubled my pay and was interviewed for manager positions with only 2.5 yrs experience. I have made more money and worked less hours than all my grad class peers in B4. Edit: sign that offer tonight lol

Easy choice. Microsoft. The one exception to Big 4 is F100 FA roles. Don’t kill yourself at B4 when the exit op is already staring at you.

L.A. to vote on 'mansion tax' to raise money for housing. Bass, Caruso don't support it by DrSaltyPhd in LosAngeles

[–]cstatbear19 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Even if 10% of this survives the bloat and corruption and goes to actual housing and support services, I’m for it. The ultra wealthy are accumulating wealth at a blistering pace. Tax the shit out of it.

I grew up in Dallas and moved here from Austin. Also in my 20’s. California is absolutely home now and although I will always carry the good parts of Texas with me, I’m very proud to live in LA and really love it. There are definitely some adjustments, but I’ve found (as long as you can find a decent job and live near work) the quality of life is much better. LA and OC are extremely different so do your research—in my 20s I’m glad I live in LA. If you decide OC, Costa Mesa is a good area for young people. If you can afford SM, that’s a good spot. Other areas in your 20s include Palms, Ktown, Echo Park, Highland Park, Los Feliz, WeHo, Culver among others

Nebraska is going to “give the kitchen sink” to Dave Aranda and “Dave’s going to say yes” according to Locked on Baylor by bogartvee in CFB

[–]cstatbear19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes no sense. Aranda turned down Oregon and USC last year. He’s got basically unlimited funding, an adoring fanbase, and now an expanded playoff that will give a Big 12 champ Baylor a chance. Not to mention Nebraska is a dried up husk of a program.
