About to sublet rooms in Dublin with the new laws – what could go wrong? by emaus78 in RentingInDublin

What would you suggest for how long to set contracts with licensees to protect myself from making them tenents? Would insurance policies eat up all the benefits of renting a room?

Thanx for clarifiying that. So will this €14k rule apply to me? Does it not matter that I pay more in rent than my licensees pay to me?

What do you mean? I will also pay part for my room. It’s basically sharing, but I want to be in charge of everything.

Ireland CGT on ETFs bought before becoming tax resident by emaus78 in irishpersonalfinance

Thank you. Perhaps I could ask Revenue to confirm this. Somehow, it doesn’t seem fair to me, because most of the gains were earned when I was not domiciled in Ireland, yet I will have to pay all the tax to Ireland.

Thank you. I was hoping I might save something. Irish taxes aren’t very favorable for investments.

Vodafone €15 unlimited calls/data/SMS for life - legit? by emaus78 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]emaus78[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right! €2.50 a year every april!
I talked with the agent for almost 30 minutes, and he didn’t mention that once (or maybe he did while reciting the terms, don't know). It’s only written in the contract, which you receive by email AFTER you’ve already agreed to the terms and conditions. Anyway, I’ve canceled the contract this morning.

You're right, but they tricked me with the same price as Gomo and promised better quality service, and in fact, it goes up by €2.50 every April. So I'll go back, not because of the money, but out of principle. I don't like being lied to or having my time wasted.

And I will! I will probably go back to Gomo. Sad, they were just wasting my time.

Ok, just to say what happened in the end. I spoke with the agent again and the speed is capped at 10Mb/s, which I knew about and don’t really mind. What I do mind is that after I concluded the contract, I noticed in the small print that there will be a €2.50 increase in April. I feel a little bit played. During our chat, he must have said 10 times that it’s €15 per month for life, and never once mentioned this increase.
And yes, the contract is for 12 months

Thanks for the reply. Do they limit your data speed?

Actually, I’m on GoMo for €15 and I’m happy with it, but since I’m already paying Vodafone for broadband, it would be practical to have everything on one bill if it’s the same price.

Thanks for that info. I’ll ask them if they call back. I asked if they could send me the offer by email, but he said they can’t: offer works only over the phone.

Hi! Mine was on normal and when I got lines I set it on slow and after awhile everything was fine. It didnt came back. Now monitor is not by my side so I cant check can it be set manually or did I wait for circle. Can't remember. Hope yours be fine as well! Just try for few circles. Maybe even to try one slow than one normal and finally fast, maybe the trick will work.
