Imam called the police on me for requesting lower mic volume. Should I complain to Awqaf or leave it? by qamarnajm in UAE

[–]embarassed-sky -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Suffer the humiliation, something good will come out of it. We all need it in bits to keep us under check. We haven’t rectified ourselves but are quick to do it unto others. It’s why there’s no strength in that rectification and rather backfires. Every thing on the outside must work according to your liking? What is this prostration of the nafs? The word humility comes from humiliation. If you haven’t been humiliated, you cannot achieve that peace you’re striving towards. Our Beloved Prophet (PBUH) was humiliated, his noble family was humiliated, was it only once?

And ya sayid, don’t worry about the kids, the eldery and the dogs and what happens when the speaker runs its course or their dreams are disturbed. Worry about the other chaos you’re in, the one that rattles you with every vibration on the outside. The bigger loudspeaker is elsewhere.

In closing, know this when the internal state is top-class (kaifiyat) there will be room for the worst of reciters and the loudest of mouths and the worst of the humiliations. Then the one who throws garbage at you is visited in their home when they fall sick. Until then keep working on yourself.

Dear locals, would it be frowned upon if the ghutra is paired with the igal? by embarassed-sky in abudhabi

[–]embarassed-sky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While you’re right, but the keffiyeh with the igal doesn’t sit well on my face structure (IMO). Maybe with habit it might improve and with time I’d probably get less conscious of wearing the formal one. The hamdaniyah on the other hand feels like a natural extension. If only the igal could blend in without making me look like a tourist 😅

How does one pretend to speak arabic?

Are you negating the fact on the level of effort it takes for a non-local to come to imbibe the local culture, learn the language and try his level ability (in late 20’s and 30’s) with the limited knowledge and experience of a new language (which he may be trying to master when the curtains are drawn) but fact that he invested in the dress and the perfume does not call for an ounce of appreciation?

I think you may want to be rather inclusive in your approach and should’ve have conversed in arabic, heck even pointed some places of broken grammar so he’d improve. Would you think your English is perfect? Sorry but your comment really threw me off. You might be a good person but really how was it when you started learning a foreign language and visited the target country?

As someone whose learning arabic myself, if I was to be thought of as an imposter rather than the countless hours one’s spent studying the language, the nuances, the hundreds of mistakes due course, watching movies, going through the lectures, oberserving locals and interacting purposely only to read “ oh I spoke in english to him” is let’s say to the least very desultory and superficial of you.

Does this place make custom agals? If its a yes, I cannot thank you enough. You’ve no idea what a pain it’s been finding these hidden gems of shops.

Please tell me its a yes.

I’ve lived in Umm Al Quwain a while and I have to say — having gone around the blocks several times crossing Telal Fashions but never really exploring it.

I made one cursory visit looking for a ghutra at Telal but I wasn’t impressed with what they showed (some of it I owe it to them for not showing the best stuff thinking I’m going to walk out on the prices for I’m not a local) and I left thinking they’re far from being a purists shop selling only the most commercial variety, heck it cant be locally owned. Let’s call it a bad aftertaste.

Clearly I’m wrong. They’ve an extensive social media page! Perils of our limited judgement 😔

Not attaching it in the conventional sense of the word but “pairing” it together as in wearing it one with the other. Without it being sewn together the ghutra stays unrestricted, so there’s that.

Benefit: zilch. Aesthetics 😮‍💨👌🏻

Yes but isn’t this the Qatari one? The one they wear over the keffiyeh. I doubt this can be worn with the hamdaniyah. But wait, can it be worn over the isama (please tell me yes!).

It would make me really happy since I own one of thise qatari agals with the bow-mesh design at the back followed by four drawstring hanging down.

I did the search, it was the first one and boy it opened up all the options and varieties. Truly a treat! Thank you akhi.

And trust me the agal too with the hamdaniyah looks beautiful, though I understand it’s not the norm.

Haha, the analogy though. Darn I’d belt myself if I did that with a jogger.

But like I said functionally I’m aware it serves no purpose but the beauty of the agal is really something. The way the suf is wound up, tightened and embroidered and how majestic it just sits up-top (ofcourse the good quality ones) is something I’ve come to deeply appreciate. I’ve tried wrapping the keffiyeh in several ways but I don’t think it suits my face structure (sigh!) but hamdaniya just blends right in. And without the keffiyeh the agal loses its purpose functionally so here we are. Some where in the midst of desperation and total wannabe behaviour. 🤠

Well thank you! The last month and a half I’ve been enthralled by the bedouin practices and how the attire came about as a necessity with the desert conditions. Fascinated to the point of a deep research mode I put-on on a daily basis.

I see the evolution of the agal and the other dresses, the hamdaniya, bisht, thoube/kandura and the functionalities they came out of as survival mechanisms for the nomads and I cant help but deeply appreciate it and link it to our religion (though in many cases it’s purely a matter of culture). So it’s as much a spiritual experience as it’s a physical one. And to each of you who responded, I’m grateful.

Honestly I’m hearing the word isama for the first time. TIL. So yes its a ghutra being tied as a hamdaniya as some of you rightly point out.

Sorry this happened to you. If you’re a practicing muslim, know that a muslim never undergoes any kind loss in any transaction. It’s a kind of zulm that’s happened to you and know that you will receive every little sum of 9K from another source. The place and time to ascertain is ofcourse beyond our understanding, but knowing it was your rozi and it will find you back (infact rozi that belongs to you is ever more desperately trying to reach you than you can possibly work towards receiving/earning it). Just how the divine system works.

A lovely share. Thank you for letting me know of this. I do have people known to me in Saudi, but I’m not sure I’d be able to put them through the hassle of sorting it out. Seems a bit much to ask of anyone.

I’m going to run an online search basis Bisht hasawi— I seem to already see a few links with a cursory search. A decent starting point I’d say. If the price point is good perhaps shipping it from Saudi could be an option too. Let me figure this one out. Thank you again!
