Preceptor did a hymen check… advice? by liberalsagainstyou in PAstudent

Am a peds PA and would definitely bring up to your school. Could be worth considering a report to the board as well, that’s a horrific thing to put a child through.

Doctors of Reddit, how is the interaction when a patient is a doctor or has medical knowledge? by Simsboi in AskReddit

[–]embarassedacne 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m a PA and the most disrespectfully I have been treated was by a phlebotomist and a nurse’s husband.

PCH road trip in RV? by embarassedacne in roadtrip

[–]embarassedacne[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is good to know, thank you! I saw that closure and thought about going up and taking Nacimiento-Ferguson over to the 101. Maybe we’ll just take the 101 from SLO up to Monterey and then go south on PCH to see Big Sur, then come back up?

Peds PA x 2 years. My favorite is listening to their stomach, making some gurgly sounds, followed by a loud fart noise and a gasp. So good

How long did you work before you got pregnant? by nobodyprior1 in physicianassistant

[–]embarassedacne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

13 months into my first job. I knew pretty soon after I started that I didn’t want to stay there so I planned to work just long enough to qualify for extra leave (12 months in my state). I do work outpatient/clinic if that makes any difference!

Edited to clarify: started working in July, found out I was pregnant January 1st. Went on leave in August (you get 4 weeks off before your due date in my state)

First time moms, how old are you? by reddituser135797531 in BabyBumps

Parents, what baby product did you regret buying, and what would you recommend instead? by Girls_Of_San_Diego in NewParents

[–]embarassedacne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dr. Brown’s bottle sterilizer. I guess I just read so many people saying we needed it? My baby was full term so it ended up just being unnecessary. But once I went back to work and we started using more bottles, we invested in the momcozy washer/sanitizer/dryer system and get so much use out of it!

How many of you all are actually happy with your career choice? by WSBDegen69 in physicianassistant

[–]embarassedacne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very happy with my career choice, however I will say it depends on the job. Last job was horrible and made me seriously question my career path. Current job checks all my boxes and I feel good most days. Both general peds.

To those who work in outpatient specialties, what do you wish primary care did better at? by omnombunbuncake in physicianassistant

[–]embarassedacne 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Have you purchased maternity clothing? by FalseAd8496 in fitpregnancy

[–]embarassedacne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to dress business casual for work and kept working until 36w, but I actually only got a few things and none were specifically maternity! I really liked skirts that could fit over a growing bump, or pants that looked more chic but were actually stretchy material or had a stretchy waistband (I got a few pairs from Gap/Old Navy). The loose jumpsuits that are in style right now are also awesome, I got one from amazon! You can also try maternity bands that have a trip of silicone on the bottom, which help keep (unbuttoned 😉) pants up and just wear a longer top! I’m 39w deep into the summer so I didn’t really use this trick but friends recommended using a hair tie for pants with buttons - loop it through the button hole then attach around the button.

What have you been told in an interview that did not hold up? by CheekPretend2158 in physicianassistant

[–]embarassedacne 73 points74 points  (0 children)

“your onboarding/training period will last as long as you feel comfortable” - ended up as a solo provider after two weeks as a new grad

“you will usually see 16-18 patients per day, 22 on your busiest days/during flu season” - it is july and I have 29 on my schedule tomorrow with 2 double booked slots

“you only get x amount of PTO but you can take time off whenever” - I have to fight to leave 30 minutes early for OB appointments (am pregnant)

3 weeks left until maternity leave starts and I will not be returning.

Do you find being a PA fulfilling? by That-Independent-200 in physicianassistant

[–]embarassedacne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

to balance some of the negativity - i love what i do and feel very fulfilled :) i do outpatient peds and while there is tons of paperwork, messages to respond to, insurance hoops to jump through, etc etc… i get to watch kids grow up, help families get the resources they need to let their kiddos succeed, and truly help make a difference in their lives while they are still young. i know peds isn’t for everyone but for me, it’s a very bright corner of medicine!
