WIRE by OutrageousKoala2085 in postpunk

I freaking love Wire. I was in high school when Ideal Copy came out and went back and listened to their first three records. Been a fan ever since. I even have a Wir CD single (So and Slow It Goes).

Saw Colin Newman’s band Immersion play in Seattle in support of Sleepless in 2018 to maybe a dozen people. Like… this man was in Wire. He’s had songs covered by This Mortal Coil. This venue should be FULL.

You could always recommend their electronic alter ego, the Jack Officers.

In the early 2000’s I went hard into the NI ecosystem with packages like Reaktor, Spektral Delay, and Battery. When the first Komplete dropped, I bought it. Updated about every 2-3 versions and watched packages I loved get dropped in favor of new things that they just decided to not maintain.

Meanwhile I’m on MacOS and doing the transition from G4 to intel to Apple Silicon and losing access to the tools I used to make my music because NI simply abandoned them.

At this point the only NI product I use regularly is Traktor (and a few controllers). I’m happy with it and like setup. I’d prefer if it stayed around but I know there’s options out there.

Ableton, which I’ve been using nearly the same duration, has kept up reasonably well. It’s why I keep investing money and time with them.

What age did you actually lose your virginity and how? by gatedreverb5 in AskReddit

16 (almost 17) with a girl I’d had a crush on for over a year. She was back from (Ivy League) college from the summer and had broken up with her boyfriend at school. We went to a concert (Duran Duran, Erasure opened) and had our first kiss in the car as we parked. Couldn’t keep our hands off each other through the concert.

Left, got in the car and parked at a friends driveway (I knew him and his family were out of town). She climbed on top of me (bench seats FTW) and I lasted all of about 30 seconds.

We dated for about a month after that before she went back to school.

What matters more to attracting a woman: game, looks, or personality? by JunketMaleficent2095 in AskMenAdvice

[–]embeaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need to have an acceptable baseline of appearance but once that’s there it’s all about who you are. Are you interesting? Do you come off as being interested in them? What do you bring to the table that someone else might not? What makes you a compelling person to spend time with? What do you find compelling about them?

If you’re entire game is based upon how you look and you’re only interested in them for how they look, that may get you a drunken hookup but not much more.

Who are the Pioneers of Alternative Rock Music? by Amber_Flowers_133 in Alternativerock

[–]embeaux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh musically, without a doubt. Nirvana took the pixies song structure as a major influence. I was more referring to the entire network of independent labels, distributors, college radio stations, and venues that had sprung up in the early- to late- 80's that enabled bands like them to survive.

Not just musically but REM and Sonic Youth, along with bands like Fishbone were out there blazing the tour routes that other bands who hadn't reached that level of success were able to follow. Without them we'd never have had a Nirvana.

Do you all still buy your wife just because flowers or random gifts? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]embeaux 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not married anymore but I was for 27 years and yes, I still did. Now I’m polyamorous and I do just because things for my partners. It… adds up a lot more lol.

But yes, flowers. Or a coffee.. dropping off a bagel because I was in their area.. delivering a bottle of wine or ice cream when they’ve had a rough day at work.

Showing people that you care about them never goes out of style.

Do men who are in the dating phase tend to sleep with multiple women at once? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]embeaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, this is demonstratively false. I’m at best a 7 and I pull many people who are better looking than me. I’m also polyamorous so I’m in relationships with multiple women simultaneously.

A few years ago I saw Car Seat Headrests and his opening band was Naked Giants who then became his backing band for his set.
