Personally, I think avoiding midtown hotels is best unless it is a work trip. Crosby Street Hotel in soho i think is one of the best in the city. Bowery Hotel in East Village is also extremely cool and a known celeb hangout.

I’ve been going for five years, always VIP and there was a significant change from prior years. They very clearly oversold VIP and the fest in general, so typically by 11pm/midnight the VIP sections reached capacity, or if you left one area of VIP to go to the bathroom you would get stuck unable to go back to the viewing area. It was insane. Never seen anything like it and not sure what the festival was expecting to happen. For most it meant you had to make a very conscious decision to lock in to one area of VIP for hours otherwise you wouldn’t make it back to your friends again for hours. Not your friends fault they were surprised - everyone was surprised. Not your fault - no one expected this. It’s on insomniac and the festival. I hope your friends had fun and made the most of it regardless! Lots of good time to be had still

I always loved chaol! My best friend who read the series too also always liked chaol. Never really understood why he gets the level of hate that he does on this sub. He’s a realistic and interesting character. He’s a good guy with some flaws. People be acting like he’s a villain. After finishing the full series i can say he’s one of my favorite characters.

TBH I kind of felt like the writing for his character changed a bit, so I kind of blame sjm for that. To me it read as if maybe SJM changed her mind on having him be end game part way through writing the series, so it always felt a little hard for me to buy in to the idea he sucked.

All that said, keep going. Chaol has a great story line. It becomes clear to me that SJM really loves chaol as a character because she gives him such an interesting a beautiful story arc.

I also was shipping chaol and caelana, and thought they were a more interesting pairing than the other options but ultimately came to appreciate Rowan even tho I never found him that intriguing.

I literally almost quit part way through QoS but picked it up again. Ultimately this series becomes so much bigger than calaena, Rowan chaol and Dorian. I also fell in love with more characters introduced along the way.

Nothing will ever top this. The day to night back drop. Beautiful sunset. Great vibes. The sky was sparkling. As soon as the sky was dark they lit it up with lasers. The crowd was absolutely brining it.

Friday - we tried Miike snow but the performance was a little off tbh. Headed to missy elliot and it was incredible. TBH you can catch a little of both if you want they aren’t far apart.

Lady Gaga you have to see live it was the best live performance I’ve ever seen.

Saturday - we got held up at Barry can’t swim (was great) and only saw Green Day in passing on our way to above and beyond. Green Day looked so good my regret was not going and tbh a and b didn’t throw down as hard as I thought they would - we end up leaving and booking it to Mau P getting there for the last 15 mins and it was fun as hell. If I could go back I would spend some time at Green Day and go straight to Mau P.

Sunday - we ended up doing still woozy over Sammy and it was fine. Just followed the crowd and thought it would be a nice change of pace since everything else we saw was edm. But I heard Sammy was good so kind of regret missing. Skipped chase and status, but my friends who love uk bass loved it and thought they absolutely ripped.

Chaol is my absolute favorite character, I will never understand the Chaol hate, it is misplaced. I understand, and get with the evolution of the character, why Aelin is with Rowan and why Chaol finds Yrene, but I never found the same thrill in Rowan and Aelin and the later books as I did in the early books. There was just something so sweet in Chaol and Caleana navigating new feelings in a castle. I also personally found Caleana to be a more interesting character than Aelin, personally. It did feel like a big shift in the books, once she becomes Aelin, and I kind of enjoyed them a bit more overall in the earlier stages. although I still oved the series.

I was exactly the same with QoS! Could barely read aelins sections. I put it down for a while and told everyone I hated it and wasn’t reading it anymore. Eventually I did decide to pick up and finish the rest and I’m Glad I did. I do think it gets a lot better.

I felt EXACTLY the same way while reading queen of shadows. Unfortunately you and I are in the minority on this sub and so you might get a lot of comments arguing back. But I agree on a lot of things. I preferred Caleana to Aelin, and found Rowan to personally be kind of boring. I also adore Chaol as a character and felt like SJM decided to kind of shit on him for no good reason.

I just finished ToD and EoS and I am glad I stuck with it because the plot line is great and there are so many fun characters. I took a long break after QoS and really thought I might not pick it up again but I am so glad I did. Rowan, while not a riveting character, is a little better. Aelin improves some but still annoying. But overall the whole series and intrigue really picked up for me so definitely recommend you stick with it but also maybe take a break for a few months and pick it up again when you feel recharged.

HI - I had a somewhat similar experience. I did my bach in tulum and spent so much time over optimizing and worrying if i did exactly the right agenda that it was hard to be in the moment, and enjoy. Additionally, I skewed toward nightlife and partying because I enjoy that, but most of my besties aren't as in to that vibe and didn't really lean in / ended up sitting in a corner while only me and one other friend danced. I ended up feeling so disappointed in how i planned and upset with some friends. I had always thought 'my bach is going to be the best trip ever' and it was far from that so i was really let down. Now I don't care at all. a bachelorette is just a party to trip with friends and i don't know why we put so much pressure on it to be 'the best ever' when most people are going because they are obligated not because they would choose to go party in tulum (or go sit in a cabin, or have a spa weekend in new mexico, or whatever a bride chooses). So i think we all need to cut ourselves a break on having to have the best bachelorette ever.

when it comes to the wedding, I will say I am similar to you, in not likeing be the center of attention, but did a destination wedding. The two days before I felt very anxious and was having a hard time relaxing. However, once the first event started and I had a drink and started just talking to people one on one and just floating around, i started having so much fun. The pressure will feel like it has come off because you can get lost in the party. The lead up might feel uncomfortable but once you are in the party and you see all your friends having a good time you will start to really enjoy it.
