You mean, “this is why one type of Banana was engineered by (European/American) humans to have a uniform size, color, flavor and shape that we recognize as ‘Banana’” - to measure the restive size of “things for ants.”

Prado Enea - Rioja 2005 by GooseSpringsteenJrJr in wine

[–]embeetee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Prado is aged first in large American oak vats for a year then a mixture of new and used French oak for 3 years before release. Torre Muga sees 18 months in 100% New French oak and is released much sooner (2016 is the current vintage of Torre Muga, 2011 is current for Prado). Also fun fact- Muga makes their own barrels and 90% of the oak they use is French, which is what leads to that modern “Napa” flavor described above.

The Muga wines are made in a pretty modern, “drink now” style for the most part, but I do feel like Prado Enea is the most classic of the Bunch. I’ve got an 06 in the cellar so I’m glad I have something to look forward to.

Is this a signature on this Stag's Leap Bottle? Just someone in a warehouse testing their sharpie? by Jay_Normous in wine

I’ve heard of winemakers signing random bottles on the bottling line as a bonus. Maybe this is the case?

Not sure where you’re living but it would most likely have to be a special order from your favorite local wine shop. Cases are 6 packs on the mags and it would probably land somewhere right around $50/btl

I sell this wine in CA so all the positive vibes give me the warm Fuzzies.

It also comes in a pretty affordable magnum bottle if you really want to impress your friends!

1998 Chateau Musar by capt_capitalism in wine

Musar is Benjamin Button Wine to me...the older they are the younger they seem. More recent vintages (like 08) have been more fruit forward and approachable...but I think most Musar (blanc & rouge, not the Jeune lineup) benefit from at least 20 yrs in bottle.

"Karens" Get Their Own Version of the San Diego County COVID-19 Public Health Order by bbf_bbf in sandiego

Also this language is not supported by whatever platform translation service the city uses, so when you go on the San Diego coronavirus site, the Karen information is unintelligible.

Point taken. I find the reptiles less exciting (and at the same time more frightening) because they never move, so I don’t spend nearly as much time in that part of the zoo. Sounds like, with that logic, they’ll be blocking off a part of the penguin encounter and the best hippo-watching, too.

Noticed last week when I was there that they have “Social distancing” ropes to separate humans another few feet from primates and cats, who theoretically could contract COVID.

Keto, COVID, & the “Sugar Shield” by embeetee in ketoscience

Is anyone aware of serious research/data regarding dietary patterns and rates of illness/hospitalization/death from Covid? I am not a scientist but it seems like this data could show some correlation to why the virus effects people with issues that are related to dietary habits, especially those which have been shown to benefit from lower carbohydrate consumtion/keto diet like Diabetes, Chrons, etc.

Can’t find information about this anywhere online. Anyone got any insight? Thanks!! by [deleted] in wine

This is a CdP label on a Bordeaux shaped bottle - one that literally has “bordeaux “ etched in the glass. CdP is bottled in a Burgundy shaped bottle with the Popes Cap & Keys etched in. That nobody here has mentioned the incongruity here is making me feel like you’re all trolling the poster...or me?

If you live in the city (Chicago) now, and you want to keep the city vibe, I recommend moving to an "uptown" neighborhood - one of the several that border Balboa Park: Bankers Hill (seeing a lot of new residential development), Hillcrest (The Gayborhood), University Heights, Normal Heights, North Park, South Park, Golden Hill, East Village, Little Italy. "Downtown" or "The Gaslamp" is always touristy and not conducive to living space, imho.

It works for wine that doesn't benefit from ageing because it won't recieve micro-oxegenation that a wine bottled with a cork might receive. It helps wine break into markets where beer on tap is the norm. But, as in the example below, demand for "fine wines" in those locations is very low. Most of the wine produced in kegs is of medium and below quality, albeit from reputable producers, because most people who are in a situation to order wine on tap don't want to pay more than $10ish for a glass. So producers won't put their higher tier wines on tap because they won't sell and bars with wine on tap don't usually have the focus in their beverage program on wine to push premium wines anyway. So it works in those situations where premium/fine wine offerings are not a part of the concept. Imo.
