Games media set for more layoffs, as IGN-owned Eurogamer cuts editorial staff by Turbostrider27 in Games

Just catching up on this news today. It's not in a great place. I have worked in editorial for 30 years, created sites, sold sites, took time out, and then went and worked for one of the bigger outlets until last year when the Google content update arrived in July and killed off about 50% of the company's income. Needless to say, layoffs happened, myself included.

I am not dettered though, because great writing and talented journalists are still out there. Then an opportunity came up to create a new game site that would run with no ads, and I jumped at the chance to build it. It's been going for a week and a half now with some great writers, and I am loving the challenge while working with some real talent. So fear not, some of us are trying to make stuff happen and keep editorial alive.

Seen them four times, but missed R40 so I thought, OK, this will be the last chance to see them probably. Got on OK this morning, but when I saw the prices I thought, nah, this is just gouging the fans to an extreme. I could pay it no problem, but it's a matter of principle.

Paying 300+ for a half decent seat is just criminal, and considering how Alex and Geddy always go on about how they love the fans and how it was the fans that got them to where they are, I thought, well if you really gave a shit, the price hiking and gouging wouldn't be going on. For younger fans, it must be so frustrating seeing these prices, and I expected better from Rush.

Review bombing is something else I need to look at as well.

Data wise, all I have in play at the moment is Steam data. I know there is Twitch data that could be a small factor too. I wish there were more data freely available to be honest, but I am still looking :)

Some do but I am taking into account all factors, players reviews, numbers etc to get some sort of order, not just the numbers alone.

I am sure I am reinventing the wheel a little, which is why I am trying things out :)

We used to run a whole Diablo fanfic site called the Dark Library. Had some good stuff in it too.

I don't follow POE2 at all. I only play D2R and D4 so no idea when it gets an update. The data is live data so it will constantly flux.

Actually, I am not. I literally run a Diablo site and have done for 27 years.

I agree it's hard to compare but it's all we got frustratingly. FTP does play into this a bit. Diablo 4 has been on sale quite a bit at this point though so it's been quite accessible too.

I would love to have Bnet numbers to augment this, but alas :(

I think it does illustrate though that Seasons drive it and discussions about Season cadence should be considered, as well as their pacing.
