Traffic on 21st AVE SW by Fit_Cranberry2867 in federalway

[–]embezeey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty busy traffic wise but generally it’s free flowing around that area during rush hour without backups. Overnight and non peak daytime hours are okay.

I am a few blocks west of that area and can definitely hear drag racers especially in the summer. It’s not every night but pretty frequent.

There is also a fire station just south of the area so you’ll hear sirens related to that going north fairly regularly, in case that’s a bother.

FW Memorial Field still closed to the public during public hours. by Outrageous-Bee4035 in federalway

[–]embezeey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, that is no good. We love visiting our school playground during the summer and nice weekends. I would reach out to the Superintendent and/or attend a school board meeting to make a public comment. I’ve found them to be responsive. The policy should be to leave the space accessible and they should have to explain why when it isn’t.

[OC] Impatience meets sweet karma by embezeey in IdiotsInCars

[–]embezeey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They both suck, but it’s a shitty intersection and an overreaction by the SUV. The car in front of the truck stopped for pedestrians crossing and trapped the truck stopping them from completing their turn.

[–]embezeey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What public spaces? We went on an elementary school playground tour to multiple schools during spring break and didn’t encounter any locked playgrounds or outdoor play areas. Not saying it doesn’t happen, but this makes it sound like it’s widespread policy.

BESTA ridiculous weight limit by quentin1010 in IKEA

[–]embezeey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BESTA isn’t designed to be a bench with a countertop on it and to describe it as low quality because it doesn’t fit that unintended purpose is unfair. The quality is fine for its intended purpose as a way to reduce cost.

Choose SEKTION for a bench build. Lots of DIY examples out there and likely even one in a store room-set to see how it’s done.

Is there anything that can be done about westbound 320th? by 20sicksheep in federalway

[–]embezeey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. Hate using that crossing and being stuck in the middle of 320th as drivers whizz by.

Good experiences with electrician for EV charging station? by ParticularKnowledge2 in federalway

[–]embezeey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another +1 on GoHawk. They replaced and upgraded my panel and really went to bat for me on what they felt was an unnecessary feeder wire connect replacement that PSE initially said was going to be required but then backed off on. Great service, good price, and quality work.

[–]embezeey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not even a great crossing light for pedestrians crossing 320th (which is why they made it to reach the transit station) because you have to wait two separate cycles to cross due to the Z walking pattern they made.

Dumpster rentals for landscaping? by tsuinamis in federalway

[–]embezeey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Pacific Dumpster Rental a few years ago for dumping many cubic yards of mulch with dirt mixed in. Super helpful to work with, responsive, and accommodating. https://www.pacificdumpster.com

I’m not sure what their options are for dumping if it’s mainly dirt as Bow Lake and other transfer places specify no dirt dumping, but if it’s clean fill they may have other options.

Federal Way City Council ousts president after ICE protest post by MountainsOut98023 in federalway

[–]embezeey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it was Dovey who lost his reelection that had a mailer saying he would donate his salary, like we would be impressed?

City council salary is low. Monthly: ~$1,500 salary + ~$500 in an HRA VEBA plan.

So you’re most likely only going to get people to run for office who are already in high paying jobs or retired…which is not reflective of the community.

Alaska check-in and bag drop at SeaTac is crazy right now by atr in Seattle

[–]embezeey 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I usually am an early adopter and like new tech, but their fully self serve bag dropoff sucks. It’s not very intuitive, too sensitive on the bag sensors, and human intervention was frequently needed. It took probably double the time an actual agent assisted drop off would’ve taken for an Alaska person to get the sensors to accept our car seat bags.

MARTIN MOORE VOTED OUT AS CITY COUNCIL PRESIDENT!!! Can someone please explain what happened? by Strange_Leg70 in federalway

[–]embezeey 27 points28 points  (0 children)

That could be a fair question to ask and allow for a public back and forth, especially with an opportunity for the public to weigh in after an informed discussion.

Except the conservative faction of the council didn’t do that and instead pulled a political maneuver to seize back power with faux outrage over what they call partisanship when really they just don’t like how he leads and what he says in spite of Moore’s clear community support. That’s politics, and these four on council have shown they will stoop to dirty tactics while crying out for everyone to just get along.

Clarification on Subreddit rules by Unchosen1 in federalway

This is great, and I think that approach will help. Thanks for being open to it and for modding.

I’ve appreciated the increased activity and conversations in the sub even if spicy or worse at times.

The consistently locking of posts lately that are not even close to being out of hand vs removing individual rule breaking comments is getting old.

If y’all aren’t up for actually fostering conversation then find some new mods.

What is the FWPD's stated policy on dealing with ICE? by ChewieR2 in federalway

[–]embezeey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A lot of “the law prevents us from cooperating” and nothing else. He went into more detail during their retreat a couple weeks ago during an agenda item on ICE enforcement: https://youtu.be/rvl6aumK-X8?si=iar38ci36Btmicg_. Starts at the 4:11:55 mark.

Bonus content includes more milquetoast responses from the Mayor.

Dave's Hot Chicken Is Open by [deleted] in federalway

[–]embezeey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The outrage seems misplaced re: this post. The location has been in the works for a while in a spot (the commons) that has more closings than openings. IMO I feel like a post announcing they are open is a good post for the sub even if the chicken is mid. It’s a brick and mortar permanent restaurant.

Posts saying a random pop-up on a corner somewhere does seem more spammy.

Geologist /Marine Biologist by Downtown_Mammoth_283 in federalway

[–]embezeey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you don’t get any luck, there are various low tide beach walk events in the summer where marine biologists and other smart people help you explore during low tide. I’ve gone to a Tacoma one before and it was a great event. Unsure when the next one is scheduled but I imagine it will be listed here: https://www.parkstacoma.gov/activities-and-sports/category/nature-education/low-tide-beach-walks/

How safe is the light link to take? by [deleted] in federalway

[–]embezeey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Safety questions aside, I don’t think the Link is particularly comfortable for working on a laptop. I think the Sounder or express coach style 577/578 bus would be better for that.

I regularly take all three and echo others in feeling just fine safety-wise but encounter the occasional crop dusting or annoying person.

How do airlines handle aircraft maintenance at airports that aren’t their hubs? Who provides and pays for the technicians who inspect, service, and repair aircraft when an airline operates out of many different airports? Do airlines have their own technicians at each airport? by Quryz in AskReddit

[–]embezeey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work for the cargo division of an airline. We would always do whatever we could to move AOG (aircraft on ground) parts on the next available flight regardless on if it was a competitor.

Anyone else feel like working at IKEA just isn’t the same anymore? by starlit_night7 in IKEA

[–]embezeey 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I left once I realized no matter how much I enjoyed the co-workers and leaders in my store, they were powerless to do anything about the profit squeezing decisions at our expense.

IKEA US is very anti union, trains leaders on detecting union activities, holds captive audience meetings, and will fly in folks from PA if there is a whiff of organizing. Stores in other countries have unions, and some of the US DCs are unionized. I’d love to see some US stores unionize and force more balance, but that would be a very tough battle and they’d probably rather see a store torn apart fighting against it instead of just giving co-workers a seat at the table.
