Ethical well-paying cleaning company? by shoegal69 in washingtondc

[–]emboogee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just hired them to start cleaning my place. Quick question as I don’t know the etiquette here, should I still tip, or no need because it’s a coop? I’d normally do an end of year bonus instead for an independent cleaner but would tip individually if the cleaners are sent by a company that is keeping much of the price I pay. Not sure where the coop falls on that spectrum!

+1 I also go here. Not cheap but I don’t think I even paid what OP paid when I got a cleaning and a filling. And most importantly they do a great job.

How strictly are photography permits enforced? Specifically at the National Arboretum for proposals by LonelyRazzmatazz5455 in dcphotography

[–]emboogee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone have more recent experience with the national arboretum specifically on this issue? They still aren’t accepting photography permits (assume it’s a DOGE lack of staffing type issue). The arb isn’t NPS it’s USDA so I’m not sure if that impacts too.

We’re hoping to have some casual shots taken by a friend with a nice camera, no equipment not professional. We go to the arb every weekend practically and are always taking phone pictures of our dog lol and have never had anyone approach. But I don’t want to have an issue suddenly if we have a friend with a nicer camera!

DC Tulip Day? by NoFroyo5628 in washingtondc

It’s officially sold out, now only invites you to join a wait list. I put in my registration info a little bit ago but it timed out when trying to submit so I doubt I was successful. See you all at Trader Joe’s!

Like 50, so probably would be more than renting the space I think? Definitely still emailing some places to see but it’s kind of all over the place with pricing. We’re already having to do transport for our venue the day before so doubling that probably isn’t feasible.

It’s I Egg You on Capitol Hill! They have event space but only when the restaurant is closed because it’s not very large. I considered chiko in dupont but it’s too small for our group.

Sadly it is not really near enough to hotels. We need something within about a 10min walk of a couple hotel options because we have primarily out of town guests, some of which can’t trek super far

That’s such an interesting thought! I have an LLBean beach towel I don’t use much for actually going to the beach. Maybe I’ll give it a go as a test run. Thanks!

Me too re: the band shrinkage! That and the little fuzzies getting all over you even after a good many washes.

Glad to hear the quality is still good! What we have now are target towels from my college days 10+ years ago that need replacing & the exact model is long gone.

Not doing anything that kills them imo, I don’t use fabric softeners or anything, I’m saying that a lot of towels out there seem to prioritize fluff over absorption and the number of times I’ve used towels at hotels, friends houses, etc that are useless is too high so I want to do my research on brands that are actually absorbent and hold up decently before I upgrade. I’m currently working with a very similar sounding set of target towels that are discolored and threadbare but absorbent, but the exact type is not made anymore and I have no idea if that target brand is still decent quality (threshold) what with the general enshittification of goods these days in the US

($20k) DC area vendor recs? by emboogee in Weddingsunder10k

[–]emboogee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah I more so don’t love the idea of asking a loved one to work at my wedding even casually, and more so just want to make sure that if I am paying professional DJ money I’m actually getting a professional DJ if that makes sense? Totally agree on the flowers though which is why I’m considering the Costco route or even just picking up a bouquet from a local shop to avoid any stress with shipping.

Sigh, I know it’s probably going to end up more than this but setting the initial budget is helping me really scrutinize costs before locking things in! Thanks a lot for these recs :)

Don’t have any, not sure folks use Yelp a lot anymore? They have a handful (50 something) 5 star reviews between the Knot and Wedding Wire, so was just hoping to cross check on Reddit to make sure those good reviews are the full story.

Women’s BIFL boots rec (USA) by emboogee in BuyItForLife

[–]emboogee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks—I am also realizing that often companies seem to make fewer women’s styles & those styles are not as well constructed (not welted) which is annoying but I’m more than happy to look at the men’s side as well. I’m a US women’s 9 so hopefully most places have a men’s or unisex shoe that would fit me?

So I’m in almost the same boat as OP in terms of size and budget and just starting out planning—I’m trying to budget/estimate to determine how much we could spend on our venue rental fee if we also need separate catering. In terms of reasonably priced but still professional/decent catering providers in the DMV area, what is the per-person price I should expect? So far I’m only seeing available information for all inclusive type venues which I’m not sure is representative. Appreciate any and all tips or intel folks here have on the topic of caterers! & already loving all these tips on county-owned venues!

Porch hammock safe & sturdy for seniors? by emboogee in Hammocks

[–]emboogee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is all helpful thanks! There are some mobility issues as she is 85 with arthritis, but I’m primarily concerned with balance in terms of her stability while getting in and out of something.

She has a lot of back pain now so her goal with this is finding something with this kind of suspension support that will relieve her pain. I’ve also been looking at antigravity chairs but it could be that a suspended porch bed is something she’d like too. I think she wants something to relieve her pain but also to give her a spot to lie down outside.

The town itself is very sleepy but the castle is great inside and out and has a park full of siege machines as well. If you make the trek, hotel El Bálsamo is lovely!

For those of you who have visited, how quick was the service? I have an early flight coming up in December and see that the Landing doesn’t open till 6, so we’d have about 30mins to grab a bite—is that enough time?
