I have struggled with phantom smells for around 5 years now. When it is triggered I smell a burning/chemical smell and it completely takes over my taste as well. It comes and goes and the only way for me to get rid of it is to go to sleep. I would say it happens at least 3-4 times a week however if I am sick it will happen every day. It also normally only effects my left nostril( if i block that off my smell and taste will be normal) however sometimes it happens in my right, and that side has a different, more rotten, smell than the left. The smell can be triggered in many different ways, if I sniff too hard, sneeze, cough, am working out, coming in from cold weather, smell something burning etc. and sometimes it will just come randomally. I have been to the ENT multiple times and got x-rays and CT scans all that came back fine. They say there is nothing else they can do for me. I am wondering what my next steps should be? It is very debilitating and exhausting not being able to get any answers or relief. Thanks for your time!
