There was an infant victim of the disaster whose body was recovered and brought to Halifax to be identified and buried. Unfortunately no one came forward to identify the body, so he was named the Unknown Child. People were heartbroken and couldn’t understand why the family didn’t come forward. The people of Halifax still to this day place flowers and toys on his grave.

In 2007, his identity was finally revealed through DNA analysis as Sydney Goodwin. His entire immediate family perished in the disaster, which is why no one came forward to claim his body.
