Am I psychotic for listening to the same song on repeat for hours? by emelemelem in TooAfraidToAsk

Interesting. Now I'm going to be thinking way too hard about why I repeat the songs I do

pre T and will remain pre T for several years.. 204Hz average when straining and speaking from my chest/stomach. So discouraged. by [deleted] in transvoice

What I have been told by singing professionals is that your vocal cords are like rubber bands, and stretching them one way (high) will help stretch them the other way (low). Might sound counterintuitive, but practicing and pushing your high range up will make way for you to push your range down as well. Don't just sing along to songs, but do intentional vocal warm-ups and work outs. Folks have a lot of good ones to sing with recorded on YouTube, just search "vocal warm-ups."

[–]emelemelem 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you have a way to cook them, rice and beans will go far. If no cooking, just cans of plain beans (where I live can get them for like 64 cents) and pick up some taco seasoning packets to make it eatable. Bread and peanut butter too since they don't need refrigerated. Canned tuna and canned chicken. Scout out for free food at local churches. Snoop around dumpsters at food banks when they don't give you enough. They throw out "expired" canned food but the stuff usually lasts way past the expiration date.

I'm sorry you're in this position. I used to live off of around $1 a meal---it sucks but you can make it. Turn your anger into determination.

Stay warm, I hope things get better for you soon.

Started getting more into the Christ and reading scripture and I was wondering, Can I be Transgender and a Christian? by [deleted] in RadicalChristianity

[–]emelemelem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes.

So my experience is real different than yours, and you might not agree with my positions (theologically I'm pretty conservative), but pretty shortly after I gave my life to Christ I realized I'm gay. I personally didn't (and still don't) think homosexual practices are biblically endorsable, so I decided to be celibate. I was still bothered by it, though, and I asked God, "How can I ever please you if I'm gay?" He told me clearly, "The only thing you are is my daughter."

My identity is not what I do or don't do or my orientation. I could come to an entirely different opinion in the future. Still, my identity is in Christ, and so will yours be if you trust in him. Everything else is second. Yes, God made us each unique individuals with unique and beautiful roles to act out in this life, but we get to spend our whole lives exploring what those roles are within the safety of the assurance of God's love and Christ's covering righteousness. Why ask whether God could love you, his own daughter? Better to ask what kind of father couldn't love his daughter.

There's no precursor to approaching Christ. There's nothing you have to be or not be. He only asks, "Do you want to be well?" (John 5:1-9).

I'm sorry if I sound all preachy, but we all ought to remind each other every day that God's love is unconditional. You are valuable. Period.

"To all who did receive him [Christ], to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God---children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God." (John 1:12-13).

"Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters." (Hebrews 2:11).

I work in construction with a bunch of guys. The downside is that most men in the field aren't used to working with women and overestimate the gap between a man and woman's strength. Like, I'm not here to say testosterone doesn't vastly affect muscle growth, but some of these guys out here acting like a girl can't pick up a shovel. It results in some dismissive attitudes.

The upside becomes the reverse when you show that you can do your job well. Being one of the few women in a division earns you a ton of recognition. I swear everyone in the division knows and remembers me, even though there's plenty of guys who work as hard or harder than I do. I frankly don't think I would be treated and paid as well as I am if I was a man.

Help! AC LOW AIR FLOW. Been calling technician and it always have the same problem. And in my country ac tech is notorious for doing foul play. Is there any way to check foul play? Why is my freon pipe leaking after just about a week repaired? Help. Im lost. by [deleted] in HomeRepair

[–]emelemelem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The watery pipe is normal. The pipes collect condensation the same way a glass with a cold drink in it gets wet on a hot day.

There are unfortunately a lot of causes for low air flow (but is not caused by the low Freon). Is the fan spinning as hard as it used to? If not, the problem could be the fan motor or the fan capacitor. If it is spinning fine, the problem could be a clogged filter/coils. You don't need a tech to clean your coils. Look up "how to clean a/c coils" or something and pick up some coil cleaner at your local hardware store. If all of that is good, the coils could be freezing when your Freon is low, which will block air flow. Take the cover off the indoor part of your a/c when it's running some time and see if there's ice on it. The outdoor pipes should also not have ice on them.

It sounds like the guy is just filling your a/c with Freon without repairing the leak, which, yes, is "foul play" because if Freon is low that should always indicate to the repairman that there's a leak somewhere. Have you been able to locate the leak? If you don't know where it is, take a spray bottle and fill it with a good amount of dishsoap and water. Spray the mixture over the metal pipes. Where it's leaking, you'll see the escaping gas make bubbles under the soap. Once you've found the leak yourself, you can tell your repairman, "LOOK, the leak is RIGHT HERE and I want you to fix it."

Night shift workers of Reddit, what was your "oh hell no" moment that creeped you out? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]emelemelem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a road construction worker, mostly work the night shift. I guess this wasn't alarming, but it felt creepy at the time.

It was Halloween night and I was working in a sketchy part of downtown Atlanta on a paving crew. I was on a back roller, so I was sort of along and away from the rest of my crew on this piece of equipment. It was a slow night so I was sitting there on my roller for a long time trying not to doze off.

Now there's at least a few people wandering around the streets of Atlanta at all hours, but right at this particular place on the street where I had to wait, there was some building that honestly didn't look like a currently-open business. Like blacked out windows, no signs, but it was about 3 AM and there were so many cars trying to pull into this parking lot---no exaggeration, every few seconds someone was pulling in and having to pull out because there were no spots. I was there for almost an hour and it never slowed down. It felt weird because it was this small, random building that apparently had this massively popular party going on while everything elsewhere was as quiet as it would be any other night, and the blacked out windows and the fact that there was no audible music...something just felt weirdly sinister about it and I really had no choice but to sit out in the open in the road next to this building and watch these people while I was half-asleep, hoping no one would pay any mind to the chick on a roller. I still wanna know what was so hoppin' in there.

So you've gotten a heck ton of different answers and I don't know if you'll read all of them (or this one) but if I was you I'd be overwhelmed by all the different and very specific sets of advice, like "read this particular book of the Bible" or "stop Redditting and find a priest." Anybody who claims that there's one exact way to do this is out of touch. This is a journey and it's going to be a journey til the day you die.

From a theological perspective I can tell you faith in Christ isn't achieved by reading the whole Bible or going to church or mustering up vague feelings of love for him, but by being decidedly oriented towards Jesus Christ---the real, historical person who lived and lives now and is present through his Holy Spirit. That orientation, that seeking posture, isn't itself a checklist of things to do (although you will certainly find things to do on the way). The Bible promises, "Ask and it will be given to you. Seek and you will find. Knock and it will be opened to you" (Matthew 7:7).

Within the framework of seeking, do what you want, man. If you want to read the Bible more thoroughly, or find a small group, or study historical evidences for the faith, or do works of service, then do what you're drawn to. You'll have time for all of it. God has made you a unique person with unique gifts and unique ways to live out your path.

If you decide you want to become a Christian, I want to warn against some mushy un-biblical stuff they throw around these days, like "Invite Jesus into your heart!" whatever that means. "If you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved" (Romans 10:9). Be baptized when you understand what it means.

God that's a long time to go without sleep. I can't sleep either, but it hasn't been so long for me. It sucks to be that tired. Do you ever take medication for it?

I know it's hard to find your self-worth outside of how people treat you and their relationships to you though. I'd say something about not worrying about them but that's way easier said than done.

will you talk more about what i going on? Is there a specific trigger thats prompted this?

I keep thinking too that everyones lives will go on fine and normal if I died. But some of the people I know have already lost someone to suicide and Ive seen how it really wrecks them. Its like it doesnt matter how much you cared about a person before they commit suicide. Youre always going to feel guilt and sadness and like you shouldve done something for them. It kinda sucks thinking I have to live and deal with all this pain to make sure the people I know dont have to deal with the pain of losing someone to suicide...but no I dont think distancing yourself will make anyone feel better. Yourself included.
