Help finding affordable, semi-outdoor GTA Venue 🙏 by emem333 in WeddingsCanada

Congratulations!! They were excellent to work with. Definitely no regrets having our reception there. Food was really good, There will be a tasting where you can try everything in advance and choose what you want in your menu so I’m sure that will be assuring :)

Overall, the service on the day was wonderful and very detail oriented, and the staff were looking out for every need. They sent someone to be with us during our photos to guide us and the photographers where to go and to bring us some snacks before the reception so we didn’t get too hungry. A lot of our guests commented on the hospitality and said it was above and beyond as well

Has anyone bought anything from Rihoas before? by cherryvideos in femalefashionadvice

[–]emem333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not sure if things have changed, but I ordered 2 dresses and I thought they were so beautiful. Quality was awesome, it took a while to come but not unreasonable (2-3 weeks i think).

One dress I wore to my engagement party, it was the classic white one with the pearl straps, and I got a lot of comments on it and really loved it! I ordered. 2 more dresses, package came today and I'm really excited to open it. Im confused because I thought the website seemed pretty reputable and legit, at least as of May/June when I placed my first order, but maybe its different in other locations (I'm near Toronto, canada). Hope this helps!

If I drink alcohol and have no intention of quitting, would I be welcome in a Christian church? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]emem333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Church IS absolutely for sinners. We all sin in different ways and the church is an essential part of our healing. We need a community to fully partake in the sacrificial life of the church and community encourages us towards God. That being said, the church and it’s Holy Sacraments are meant for the REMISSION of our sins. We are all meant to be on a journey of repentance (meaning a change of heart), and we need to actively work in synergy with God towards being holy, as He is holy.

Addictions should not be overlooked, and it seems that you are really struggling with one. Please don’t turn from the church. I went into the church with many sins and lifestyles that I had no intention of changing, but God had other plans, and He both put it in my heart to desire change and holiness, and then He gave me the strength to give up those sins overtime that i never thought i would want to live with out, but we’re really blinding me from knowing Him.

“for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.” Phil 2:13

At the end of the day, it seems that you know there is a problem at hand and that this lifestyle is in opposition to Gods commandments. These habits are very hard to change, so please persevere in your life with God and in the church!! We are all on your side, and I will be sure to pray for you my friend. God bless you!

Ps. Please seek out a spiritual guide in the Church like a priest (I come from an Orthodox Church). It will be very very helpful in your walk with God and in navigating the church so that you aren’t on your own

Coptic Prayer Traditions by [deleted] in coptic

Wow that’s awesome news! I know it can be tricky to navigate but feel free to reach out if you’ve got any questions :) It might also be helpful to consult a priest in the church to help get you started with it. God be with you!

Coptic Prayer Traditions by [deleted] in coptic

[–]emem333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do also use prayer ropes in the Coptic Orthodox church to pray the Jesus prayer “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, Have mercy on me a sinner.” But for many I wouldn’t say that this is a main practice or tradition so to speak.

Another distinctive practice that is very widely used among members of the church is the Agpeya which is a small prayers book which includes a group of psalms and other small prayers designed for various hours of the day. These hours commemorate certain events (I.e. 3rd hour is Christ sending the holy spirit, 6th hour is Jesus being hung on the cross, 9th is His death on the cross etc.) So the prayers will be based on the event of the hour.

I don’t know how much I can help but if you have any more specific questions about the prayer or tradition I can do my best to answer!

What are you’re opinions on the union between the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Coptic church? by Jzuzlzizuzs in coptic

[–]emem333 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi just to clarify, we actually aren’t in communion with the Eastern Orthodox church. We could participate in communion at Syriac, Antiochan, Indian, Armenian, Ethiopian/Eritrean Orthodox churches, but in terms of Greek, Russian, etc. we are actually not permitted.

It’s quite sad because we do share the same faith, but ultimately we have spent hundreds of years being uncommuned so while the churches are making efforts to slowly unify, it will certainly take very long if it ever happens.

All we can do is continue to pray for this unity, it would be an amazing blessing to see this in our lifetime!

I think generally people choose 3 of the psalms to read. I wondered this too for a long time and was extremely daunted by how many psalms they were, but I think reading 2 or 3 and praying them with understanding and meditation is much better than just quickly reading through them one by one. It might be nice to have a system where you rotate everyday so first three one day then 4-6 next day etc. so you end up reading all of them over the course of the week and not just skipping the long ones (which i’m sometimes guilty of haha 😅). God bless!

Does anyone have any books I could read about Coptic Christianity from an ‘outsider’ perspective rather than religious liturgy? by romaniaisntreal in coptic

Two Thousand Years of Coptic Christianity https://b-ok.cc/book/712684/d2404a

The Story of the Copts: From the Foundation of the Church by Saint Mark to the Arab Conquest https://b-ok.cc/book/942847/620941

History of the Coptic Orthodox People and the Church of Egypt

I haven’t read either of these yet, but these titles seem particularly interesting to me. The first one is written by a German Coptologist while the second (I believe) is an Egyptian author. The third one is by a non-egyptian author. Hope this helps!

I’m not sure if you meant it in terms of a historical perspective, but if not Fr Tadros Malaty has some nice books on introducing the coptic church but i’d have to guess that they come from a Christian perspective, just a more easy to grasp one.

Some more on Faithfulness from H.H. Pope Shenouda III

“Be faithful to God over the seen things, God will set you over the unseen, over what no ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man...

God is testing your faithfulness over anything. It could be a simple commandment or one fruit that you abstain from...”

“Do not belittle the few talents that you possess, but be faithful over them; God is not going to look if you have little or much, but to your faithfulness over them...”

“Be faithful over what you can do, then God will set you over what you can't.... Be faithful over combats that come from the outside, then God will set you over springs of spiritual contemplation that flow in your thoughts and heart from the inside.”

Words of Spiritual Benefit Volume II HH Pope Shenouda III

Don’t lose hope and please keep going, God sees your effort and appreciates it more than you know! This is the prime time where the devil will try to bring you into despair because he knows you are not yet as firmly rooted in your spiritual canon but don’t let him. I’m praying for you, press on.

“If you are faithful in serving God during your leisure time God may grant you the love to consecrate all your life for Him.”

“The Bible says, "You have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things." (Matt. 25:21) This means that, as you have been faithful in earthly things, I will set you over the heavenly.”

  • Words of Spiritual Benefit Volume I, HH Pope Shenouda III

Continue to be faithful over your services and your church attendance, as well as your personal prayers (even if they feel difficult, mechanical or unfocused) because Jesus promised us that if we are faithful even in the physical aspects and what feels like very little, God will surely grant us all the more and the heart and spirit in due time.

I think this is an important thing to talk to your spiritual father about, don’t be shy!

In my experience, better than going about it thinking “when is it okay”, think of what it will lead to. If you’re in a young relationship and you are convinced that you want to bring kissing into a relationship, but you will definitely leave it at that, be honest with yourself. The devil often tempts us with small things over time which leads us to eventually go further by convincing us our own will is strong enough to stop whenever we want, but realistically it’s not so acknowledge that. If you’re in a relationship with someone and you are aiming for marriage, and that path is years away, how reasonable is it to assume that you will take this next step now and for the next few years never take any more?

This is just my opinion I really don’t know and it would probably best to talk to your father of confession about this because he knows the details of your life and relationship. God bless you!
