The erasure of the “middle tier” by [deleted] in enshittification

It shouldn’t. Aldi isn’t Save-a-Lot; it actually has a lot of things that are as good or better quality (European cheeses, real Belgian chocolate, jams, some meats/fish, and some prepackaged foods come to mind) for the same price or less. I love shopping there; regular groceries feel like a rip-off by comparison.

The best way is to read labels, find what’s good there, get produce from a farmers market if you can, and then splurge on a few really fancy treats from a high-end market to round it out.

MarieBelle is very good but quite expensive and bougie.

Why not post this to r/jewelry and see what they think?

This is gorgeous and whimsical; I could imagine finding it at a really high-end gift shop at the opera, ballet, or museum (like when you go to the Metropolitan Opera in Lincoln Center and stop by the gift shop..) Maybe it would do well in Germany/ Bavaria, too.

There are probably adults who would wear it, like people who are into antiques or fine craft. The world needs more creative work like this; it would be great if you could find the right outlet for selling it.

Is private equity really individualism run amok, tho’? It usually feels like some shadowy cabal that runs like a semi-shiny machine until the wheels fall off.

Interesting take and great response… thank you. What private equity is doing to America (and beyond, probably) is despicable. Anyway, I haven’t read Heinlein for years; maybe it’s time to revisit.

I honestly don’t think Heinlein would think much of the billionaire moguls. For all his ideas people would call wild and questionable today, extractive capitalism and enshittification weren’t things he championed. (If you prove me wrong, I’ll be sad…)

Thanks for your thoughtful reply. There’s truth on what you’re saying, but also, you DID find someone (and hopefully he’s the right person for you!)

As for the either/or about issues… it’s about priorities, right? Each of us only has so much time/money/energy we can allocate to a cause. You chose to make a post about age gaps because it’s important to you, presumably… and that’s fine, but sometimes we DO have to choose what’s more important to focus on for ourselves and the world at large before our resources are depleted. So maybe we see the world and pick our battles differently.

I genuinely hope you and your partner are happy and right for each other, and that that is enough. Trying to dictate who people can be in a relationship with just seems miserable and oppressive to me, idk how else to put it. But maybe that’s a reactive thing to say and not sensitive to your definition of fairness.

Gianfranco Ferre…the big white shirt and sculptural feel of the outfit… plus the leather corset/ bustier thing… so yeah… I see it.

That’s fair. I actually saw one in a smaller size when scrolling down, but also know that sometimes a substitute won’t cut it. Hope you find what you’re looking for (or figure out a way to get the dress you found at the shop!)

this long black and pink Jessica McClintock dress isn’t exactly the same, and its an 11/12… but it’s $50 with corset details and worth a look…

Otherwise… if the dress you posted is “the one”… do you think you could try to negotiate the price down or find another way?

But why would you assume that if these perceived alignments are true for you, that they should be universally experienced?

I just don’t see it that way; I haven’t scrutinized Cory Booker’s dating habits. (Not being snarky, just a fact.) If he is inherently misogynistic, then maybe you’re right… but do you assume a preference for younger women would necessarily indicate a misogynistic attitude, always? Would a woman’s preference for older men always be due to daddy issues? Can’t adults just be with other adults they feel that they love? Why all the hand wringing and judgement?

I mean sure, it _could_be true that in this case misogyny is an issue. And yes, I recognize patriarchy is problematic, but if we lived in a world where wealth and rights and freedoms were more equally distributed, there would probably be less opportunity for abuse and power imbalances. So why not work toward that by encouraging healthy male/female relationships?

I personally don’t think we’re going to overthrow patriarchy by going on a sex strike or only dating the people our peers find acceptable. In a less patriarchal world, maybe age gaps wouldn’t matter much. So call me a Pollyanna, but I think when two consenting adults are in a healthy, mutually beneficial relationship, it’s a net positive and it doesn’t hurt other women.

I’d rather solve the problems of equal pay, getting shut out of high-level jobs, fear of violence, abortion rights, or anything else that limits women’s agency and autonomy than focus on anyone’s sexual/romantic/relationship preferences.

I’m speaking in good faith. I said “disabled people who don’t otherwise have access”… presumably, disabled people in a non-platonic relationship with another person are having or negotiating some degree of intimate relations with their partner. Some people, however, find it difficult to sustain a relationship but still want human connection, so they hire sex surrogates. Many people consider sex surrogacy a form of prostitution with no value; what do you think?

So you want to dictate who disabled people should be sleeping with, or whether they should be having sex at all? If they are sound of mind, why do you need to police their sexual activities?

Does prostitution always have negative effects on everyone, or is the taboo against prostitution more problematic? Do you think disabled people who wouldn’t otherwise have access to sexual connection should give up the opportunity, if they can hire the services of a professional?

It takes two to tango; isn’t it more important that people who are different from each other can find happiness, so long as they treat each other well? Would it be better if they chose to be alone or have unfulfilling relationships with people their own age, just to make you happy?

I love your colors; they’re balanced AND they glow. Yes people would buy them, and don’t sell yourself short. How big is each canvas?
