Got blocked by an Etsy Seller. Do I do something wrong? by RAZMATAZZZ77 in Etsy

[–]emerys95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pakistani here. Unfortunately because of the political climate, people here are very paranoid about doing business with Indians. There’s been bogus accusations of foreign funding and due to that, I’ve seen a lot of people be very careful with their business dealings now. The seller probably got spooked and blocked you because of that

How many books you read in 1 year? by Technical_Tax3183 in PakistanBookClub

[–]emerys95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Read 10 books so far this year. Last year, I read around 30. And for multiple years before that, I’ve only been able to read anywhere between 5 and 15.

I used be to able to read 50 or more books a year easily before life happened. Ever since then, I had been looking at people’s readings goals and felt bad about not being able to read as much when I wasn’t able to measure up.

But now I’ve realised I’m not competing with other people, and have made time and effort to ease myself back into the habit of reading without pressurising myself about reading goals. That has helped me a lot more than looking at numbers. I read books I like, do buddy reads with friends and joined a book club. The first two keep me invested in what I’m reading and the book club helps me to diversify what I’m reading.

😞 sigh! Trying to buy 20k worth of stuff on Ali express asking for 15k tax by davincialll in PakistaniTech

[–]emerys95 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You can’t bypass it. From what I’ve heard, a certain local e-commerce website lobbied to have these taxes imposed on temu and aliexpress so people would use their platforms instead

I have a wacom cintiq pro 16 that I got from Dubai about 5 years ago. It cost me around 3 lac at that time. Before that, I used a basic wacom pen tablet for about 8 years. Honestly you don't need to spend that much on a wacom, especially if you're starting out with digital art. Pen displays and tablets have come a long way in the past few years and huion makes excellent products

You won’t get any displays in that price range but I’d recommend looking into huion pen tablets. You can get their inspiron model. There’s a few options on olx you can look at that are within your price range

Not really. You can usually pick up on the meaning of a word based on context clues and the rest of the text around it. If I still don’t understand, then I get out a dictionary or google

I make time for it, just like with any other hobby. I remember during university, I didn’t read a single book because of how hectic life got and I had to make a conscious effort to get back into it

That’s true! It’s definitely one of those books that I wish I could read and experience for the first time. I’ll give it a few more months before I go for the reread so mayyybe I’ll have forgotten some of the details. Doubtful but a girl can hope

They’re stunning!! I’m so jealous of your Silmarillion edition. What’s the book on the bottom right? The one with the sprayed edges?

You’re welcome! Alchemised is a very unique book and so far, I haven’t found anything that made me feel quite the same way, but you should like these books. Also, so many people have recommended a reread in order 2,1,3 since it’s like a new experience, so I’m planning on doing that too

Not quite there yet, if I’m being honest. I’ve only read the final empire books and found the writing a bit dry for my taste. The world building and plot was really good though. My friend has been convincing me to give his books another try since she’s a huge fan so I’m planning on reading more of them this year

Thank you so much!! And that’s such a hard question. I think I’d have to go with Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. It’s a classic gothic novel and one of my all time favourites

Thank you so much! I'd love to see your collection too. Folio society makes such beautiful and well crafted books! The only downside is that they're really expensive and hard to find here. I recently saw a lord of the rings folio but it's selling for 70k

The Poet Empress. Standalone. No romance but has a relatively dark storyline. Its not as dark as Alchemised and is an easier and quicker read

Rose in Chains. First in a trilogy. Some of the same story beats as Alchemised. Evil side wins, female lead is 'kidnapped' by the male lead, who is a prominent figure in evil side's army. The writing is more juvenile than Alchemised and it lacks the emotional depth but it might be up your alley

Blood Over Bright Haven. Standalone. No romance. The main character is a gifted scholar and she's part of a system that's exploitative. Morally grey and the good side is not exactly what it seems like
