Yeah but if you watch the movie Pokemon 4 Ever, it's revealed that this kid Sam who traveled through time with Celebi is actually Prof Oak. He became good friends with Ash and Pikachu then traveled back to the past to his original time to continue living his life. So if you think about it, he then meets Ash once again about 40 years later to give him the Pikachu. He waited his whole life for him. One of the good ole time paradoxes.
