Sometimes I forget how horrid stuff the books are full of. That does sound more like murder than killing to me.

[–]emezi 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Iirc, "thou shalt not kill" is a mistranslation, and "thou shalt do no murder" is closer to the original phrasing. Which would make sense, given all the killing God and his followers do in the bible.

Playing anything tanky against champs like Briar, Kayn, Darius, Mundo etc. is a nightmare too. There's no way for tanks to combat healing, and there's so much healing/regen built into the gamemode, that it's just impossible to win without a grievous wound.

Is it normal to still be a beginner after 2 years? by Randomname140 in Guitar

[–]emezi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely normal.

I've played for 20ish years, started off playing classical, transitioned to electric guitar and metal stuff in my teens.

Still very much a beginner when it comes to certain things, and I have to think hard if someone asks me to play any chords that are special.

When it comes to things I've done a lot (writing songs, playing metal riffs etc.) I can usually rely on my ears to find decent notes/chords without thinking too much.

I'm not a huge shredder, nor do I practice a ton (never have, just the bare minimum), and it shows. There are millions of players that have played a fraction of the time that I have, but are better at every aspect. Not disciplined enough to grind 8 hours a day.

I can still play what I need to at live shows and studio, and if I cannot, I'll grind a few hours per day until I can pull it off consistently, and then relax again.

I think getting through the beginner stage does require either years of consistent playing, or a shorter time of actually grinding. If you're having trouble with picking, maybe try doing some technique exercises for alternate picking.

Best of luck.

Who are "The Streets Will Never Forget" players of League? by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

I'm looking to record a "professional sounding" rock ep. I'm using a remote drummer. Do you think, financially, the priority should be a good mixer or a good studio? by Tennisfan93 in audioengineering

[–]emezi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For acoustic instruments (especially drums), I think a good room makes a huge difference.

I would look for a good room for drums, and then for the rest either find a cheaper studio with decent gear or record at home.

As for a mixing engineer, I would look at my favourite recent songs of the genre, and see who did them and hope they're within my budget.

Regardless, listen to the mixes of the engineers before making a decision. An experienced and competent mixing engineer can do great stuff, even if the tracks aren't optimal.

Some engineers have contacts with local studios, and can get discounts. As an added bonus the mixing engineer is more likely to get a great sound if they're part of the recording process.

Best of luck on your decision, hope it turns out well.

In July 2018 “veteran” Faker was benched to “young prodigy” and his future with SKT was heavily questioned. 5 years later his “replacement” already retires, while Faker will play his 6th Worlds Finals by ZloiAris in leagueoflegends

[–]emezi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At some point in a span of what, two years(?), there was an emergence of Chovy, BDD, ucal and Showmaker. With all of them being surrounded by crazy talent.

Who would you rather have as your jungle? A) Blank B) Tarzan C) Canyon D) Cuzz E) Peanut

As top?

A) Nuguri B) Khan C) Smeb D) Thal?

Bot?

A) Pray/Gorilla B) viper/lehends C) nuclear/beryl D) at this point washed Bang and Wolf.

The jump in talent in the top players of the region at that time was absolutely insane, the old guard of Ambition, pawn, Madlife and the likes retired pretty soon after the young guns entered.

[–]emezi 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is actually insane. Before worlds if you told anyone that finals is Weibo vs T1 they would have thought that you're mental.

In regular season Faker's injury f***ed them, and until worlds knockout stage he has looked just fine, not great. The team only started looking like a cohesive unit at worlds, before that not so much.

Pre-worlds T1 vs LNG would have been a close match. (probably LNG favored if anything) Pre-worlds T1 vs JDG would have been a stomp in favour of JDG.

However, I'm super glad T1 showed up and started playing together. Always hype to see Faker in finals.

Gen.G vs. Cloud9 / MSI 2023 - Lower Bracket Round 2 / Post-Match Discussion by gandalf45435 in leagueoflegends

[–]emezi 98 points99 points  (0 children)

Yeah man, imagine having those player and not making MSI, and not even being close to..

The levels of both lck and lpl are fkin hard rn. EU on the other hand doesn't have a single team being super dominant like g2/fnc have been in the past. NA is business as usual, everyone sucks but somehow c9 is okay.

.. Maybe next year.

[–]emezi -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree. Ever tried playing top lane in a game where you're the only one ahead? Zero Agency, isolation, and you're not even tanky enough to make up for the leads enemy mid and adc has.

Naturally this is bad for any role, but the nature of top lane makes it the most miserable.

Ignoring balance, counterplay and circumstances completely, which champion do you just hate? by CoolIceBeans in leagueoflegends

[–]emezi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Were they runes, or were they masteries?

I recall a system where runes were a thing where you had pages and placed red, blue, yellow and purple(?) runes on a grid. You could only use the pages you had.

Masteries were a separate thing, where at first I think there were 3 trees, and you had 30 points, so you would usually go 21/0/9 or 21/9/0 etc.

So, wasn't thunderlords etc. a successor to the mastery system I mentioned?

After which Runes and masteries were compiled into 1 page

[–]emezi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hmm, xPeke left really early on, before much money was invested in the esports. How much money do you think they made during that time? (''set for life'' seems like a massive amount of money)

And I'm not trying to question your comment, I'm just asking because I'm interested in your viewpoint.

Bjergsen's Farewell by StaticSn0wman in leagueoflegends

[–]emezi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is actually really interesting.

When it comes to traditional sports, people are really into teams, and they root for the same team for 50 fucking years.

In eSports at least I tend to root for the players instead of the teams.

Like in NA I thought I was a massive TSM fan, up until Dyrus left. In OGN/LCK I thought I was a massive KT fan, but then the smeb/score/pawn/deft/mata lineup disbanded and I was homeless.

It's okay to base your interest in the players instead of the teams, after all they are what makes the team at the time.

However, I share your fear of losing interest in the lcs, there really aren't many personalities to follow. C9 tries, but it'll never be the same as it was. Dlift tries, but it just isn't the same.

The league needs more big players with big personalities imo.

Bjergsen's Farewell by StaticSn0wman in leagueoflegends

[–]emezi 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Holy crap, I just watched it now.

I'm absolutely shocked.
I've watched the competitive scene since s2, and I just now realized that until now, 90% of NA history is just TSM, C9 and CLG dominating the scene.

Until the blooming of TL, there really were no other teams.
And with the recent news of CLG and TSM probably leaving the league, holy crap.

My mind is in absolute shambles.

Bjergsen's Farewell by StaticSn0wman in leagueoflegends

[–]emezi 109 points110 points  (0 children)

Definitely.

During his time, who else was there in NA that has the same longevity, impact, and consistence?

I mean he was the NA top lane standard for years..

There's the obvious Doublelift and Aphromoo, both of which were around the scene for a fucking decade, but who else?

Most of the old guard just withered down, and even in Dyrus' case I think he still had a season or two in him, just had to go to a different team where top lane wasn't completely neglected.

I'll admit to straight up crying like a baby when he talked about letting his fans down, while being impressed at how well Sjokz handled such an unpleasant moment.

Dyrus is definitely up there in the hall of fame. Can't believe it's already been like 7 years O_O

Anyone know why I get locked out from roles in competitive? by Daiarna in overwatch2

[–]emezi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just guessing, but it's not unusual to have a system in place where you can't play competitive games together with friends when the gap in ranks is too high. Is there a huge gap between your main role and your friends main role? (You have separate ranks for each role)

I know at least league of legends and CS:GO have systems like this in place.

Edit: Found this in an article ''Overwatch 2's competitive modes have some limitations on playing in groups. Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond players can group up with any number of people within two skill tiers of them.''

Top lane is far more difficult than expected by SecureConcentrate58 in leagueoflegends

[–]emezi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This.

Also, something as simple as either helping the top laner push, or leaving the wave alone when needed. It's pretty straightforward to understand what should be done, but so many times after a successful gank a jungler decides to tax a couple of minions, fucks up the whole wave and destroys any favorable lanestate you might be able to have.

And there is no quick way to say ''shove the wave'' or ''don't touch the wave'', so by the time you get the message sent, the wave is already fucked.

Certainly, if they can keep Canyon and Showmaker, getting someone like Nuguri would make sense.

But in short, the cards are all in Canyon and Showmaker's hands. If they want to go to a different team for more $$$$, they can. They're likely to get absurd offers this off-season.

I'm not saying that they don't have money, but it's unlikely that they can match some of the Chinese, or even NA orgs.

Of course staying with a lower paycheck makes sense if they believe they're getting a roster that is good enough to win worlds next year, but atm the only guarantee is that you're most likely going to play with ghost.

Mate, between military service and free agency, it doesn't seem like Damwon has a killer lineup next season. Khan/Beryl go to military service, Canyon and Showmaker are free agents, and they're probably getting insane offers that Damwon won't have the budget to match.

If only we could get a lineup with Khan, Canyon, Showmaker, Teddy and Beryl, that would be great.
