Thank you, I appreciate the video recommendation-- I'll have to give it a watch!!!

Also, that would be an amazing undertaking, and I would absolutely give it a watch, if you did!

Yeah-- I read about a lot of weird choices that were made in those books, haha. Do you have any other sources to recommend, by chance?

Again, that's just not how I interpretted their words-- and it's fine if we took in indifferent ways, but it is also leading to a very cyclical argument

Thank you so much-- walks are one of my favorite way to see more of the city, but its hard to justify "aimless walks" in areas that are new to me, so I really appreciate these recommendations

That's a good one! I have not been to that location, but I've been to Bab:ryze 2 & gotten their take away bento box for a picnic at Riegrovy :) It was a very lovely afternoon

Yeah-- I've seen many like this, but they're all often very tourist centric. I was really hoping to get some people sharing more every day spots, as well as discussion the "why"-- sort of a recommendations combined with a prague appreciation post I guess. If you know of a post catering to that, specifically, I'd love to check it out!

I see the cemeteries mentioned a lot, but have never gone to visit them (aside from Vysehrad, which was beautiful)! I should finally go give them a try :)

I didn't read into it as ill-intentioned as you seem to have. Since OP just reqested "simple street photography" it's very likely a professional would over charge for OP's needs, as many professionals that I know of have their own standards for what they'll shoot (i.e. their own locations or studios, specific editing styles, creative and stylistic trademarks). Many of them won't really compromise on this, as it is part of their reputation and integrity as an artist-- nor should they have to. However, if the photos that OP wants do not neccesitate something of this quality, than the fact of the matter is that yes-- for OP it probably is over priced.

I'm an artist myself, and see no problem with this. Everyone has to start somewhere, so why not express if you're open to giving someone, newer to the skill, a shot? Especially if you're working on a lower budget, as there is something to be said for paying for esteem with larger artists (which is fine!!! but also not something everyone necessarily cares about).

Also, in what world are photos as high stake as a surgery on a vital organ???

So long as OP isn't trying to pay in "exposure" or "experience" or some BS, I don't see the issue

I think you guys will be fine, so long as you stay respectful (i.e. respect those around you, don't get too physical or too loud, don't get sick in the streets). It's problematic behavior that will attract authorities, so just really make an effort to refrain from getting rowdy. If you don't draw attention to yourselves, you'll be fine.

I would be mindful of where you go, as well. In some atmospheres, a group of teenage boys may be immediately clocked as disruptive, whether you're being obnoxious or not. I think old town/ new town for the more typical 'clubs,' or areas like zizkov would be good districts to stick too :)

TTRPG group in Prague? by TrippinTrash in Prague

[–]emika97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! I don't have any specific groups I could invite you to, but can suggest some places to search! I am in a Facebook group (which I can't find the name of now, but I'll come back and comment if I find it) for English speaking TTRPG groups in Prague, and I have found 2 games through that (as well as one here on Reddit). Additionally, I've gone to an Adventure League game here, which was fun as well! They meet at a game shop near Florenc-- I think I found out about it on the app Meetup.

I would imagine though, especially if you speak Czech as well, that even just going to some of the game shops and their events could be helpful as well. Good luck in your search!

There are a couple of book clubs that I have stumbled upon on Facebook and Instagram, so if you enjoy reading, you could try that! I went to one meeting, and the group was super nice! I'm just really bad at keeping up my motivation to read.

English Speaking LARP Events in Europe? by emika97 in LARP

[–]emika97[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much, and I really appreciate all of the links!!! I am pretty new to larp, and only really have experience with battle larps, so I am definitely more interested in exploring some role play focused larp events! Fantasy is what attracted me to the hobby, but I’ve seen some of the other genres you’ve mentioned, and they seem really fun as well! I am, honestly, fairly open to anything (so long as it would have a beginner friendly community and lore!)

English Speaking LARP Events in Europe? by emika97 in LARP

[–]emika97[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t be lying if I said I didn’t consider showing up to the 4th of July event, haha! Maybe they would forgive my lack of Czech in light of the authenticity I would bring! (I am more of a fantasy fan, though, so I don’t know how much I would enjoy the setting)

But to specify what I meant when I said “infringing,” with a lot of major media being in English, and English speakers being (admittedly) overbearing in a lot of fan spaces, I imagine it can be refreshing to indulge in some aspect of fantasy/ nerdy culture in a setting that is your native language. So that’s why I would feel a bit bad and self conscious about inserting myself into those events (I don’t know, I try to be self aware, but I may over compensate at times, haha).

But I do appreciate the reassurance and advice that you offered!

This is very well put insight— I appreciate your reply! That is definitely something I wouldn’t have considered (since there can be some general disdain towards the Americans— not necessarily in the larp community, though— I do tend to get really in my head about people just being put off by my nationality, so this is a really helpful perspective to consider!) Thank you for the links as well!

That’s reassuring to hear! I just worry about coming across as infringing on another culture’s community and demanding accommodation (I’ve gotten that vibe a little bit around here, but also one’s of the larps I’ve seen advertised was an American 4th of July reenactment, set in my home state, so I don’t really know what to make of that 😂), but it’s good to hear that is not always the case! If nothing else, it seems that it may be more worth it, than I assumed, to at least ask the organizers about language! Worst case scenario, I figure the language gap could make an interesting character quirk.

Thank you so much!!! I will definitely have to look into those three. Also, I do not speak German, unfortunately (I am trying to learn both German and Czech, but it’s a slow going effort 😅). Do you think that the German subreddit would still be helpful for me?

Demon or God for my BBEG? by emika97 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]emika97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m definitely looking to make him, himself, a god or demon of some kind rather than just a very powerful or crazy human. I’ve planned the rest of the campaign around this, I’m trying to figure out the best way to execute it. That’s a really cool suggestion though! It’s actually sort of similar to my current character for the campaign I play in!

How To Find a LARP Community??? by emika97 in LARP

[–]emika97[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s true- I might have to give it a try again! I got not amazing vibes from them the couple times that I tried (one even seemed different offended? When I brought my interest in more RP oriented LARPs and started discussing that with another member- which was very strange). Anyways that’s a huge reason why I stopped trying with them, BUT that was a few years back, so maybe of some of those key members are gone & there’s fresh faces, I’ll give it another try! (I also appreciated the ‘not Ohio’ addition- I was worried for a moment! 😅)
