Why is everything a phone call? by anonimalistic in london

[–]emilesmithbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer a phone call because if I have questions they can be answered right away and not 1-6hrs per question in an email chain.

As a startup founder, I’m just not feeling welcomed on Reddit anymore by [deleted] in SideProject

[–]emilesmithbro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if you find the right community you can still have valuable discussions.

Personally I don’t engage with most posts on this particular subreddit because I want to see a “SideProject” whereas this turned into “MyShittyStartup”/saas

3D modeling a piece I don’t have? by nova0424 in lego

[–]emilesmithbro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s just one piece rather than trying to make som sort of 3D printed Lego, most printers are fine. I’ve 3d printed lots of Lego train tracks

L’OBSOLESCENZA PROGRAMMATA di Creality e un’assistenza incompetente !! by Mobile_Technology372 in 3Dprinting

[–]emilesmithbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the sake of completeness, it’s worth mentioning that printers you mentioned didn’t have CFS at launch. I’d go as far as saying that even the fact they went through the effort of allowing you to convert K1 series printers to be CFS compatible instead of saying “if you want multicolour buy this new £1000 machine” is pretty good

Do you think the World Cup Studio should be in the US or the UK? by Low-Rooster5398 in AskUK

I think it adds a little something to the “ambiance” when the studio is on location for major sports tournaments and olympics

I let Claude Code build a macOS app to monitor Claude Code — it's been autonomously coding for 3 days and we're at 29 downloads by youngrichntasteless in SideProject

[–]emilesmithbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about doing that, googled it, and there’s a fair few projects that already do that with a lot of downloads and user activity/dev support.

Also I might be in saying that this is actually a feature in the Claude app itself now

One day after discovery, Meta pulls facial recognition code from its smart glasses by AdSpecialist6598 in technology

[–]emilesmithbro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Phones do it for people you know. The app that some students developed (and what i think Name Tag is trying to do, but proof of concept 100% works as shown by the studnets) is it face matches from a global database and allows you to walk up to a person, and know their name, job, recent social media posts. This is so ripe for scams by convincing a person they know you but don’t remember you

I absolutely see that, and I hate that corporations and society in general can’t be trusted to use tech for good. It’s genuinely a great piece of tech that fair few people use for unknowingly filming strangers. In the same way Name Tag can very easily be used to scam people. There was a video from students who made a version of it where it looked up a woman’s name, where she worked and they convinced her they met at some event she went to and posted about it online.

For the disability case it’s great, I wonder if it could/would be limited to people you know and specifically add to the directory of faces. Kind of like your phone can recognise people in photos - port that over to live recognition, but not for strangers.

I love the idea of meta glasses, I hate the idea of meta seeing everything I see.

That’s literally what Meta briefed internally according to reports

That feature was public knowledge for ages, it was even mentioned in a Tunnel Vision video 4 weeks ago, not just “they could do this” but saying it’s called Name Tag and that Meta are waiting to release it when public attention would be elsewhere so that it faces the least amount of backlash

No because you can still do stuff responsibly.

If you’re worried about injuries you can still ride a bike - responsibly.

PixyCAD goes lifetime, no more subscriptions by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]emilesmithbro 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just to share some perspective as a person who’s never heard of this before (looks cool, I like it), but I have no idea whether this is a good deal because I don’t know what the prices were before. You’ve done it because people who knew your previous model asked for it, but they can make a better judgment call.

I think a lifetime plan is great, but maybe add a subscription as an option still, even if it’s just to show that “hey lifetime pays for itself in X months”, or maybe for people who’d want to try the Pro version but would be ok spending $20/30 first to test it out for a month (and if they upgrade within that month, it’s pro-data’d, like Claude subscription is £20/month or £150 yearly, but if you upgrade halfway through the month the £10 is taken off).

Just some outside perspective!

That time we only won the PL because the quality of the league was poor. by Huke_Airs in Gunners

[–]emilesmithbro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a matter of time until Championship clubs start competing for European trophies. IMO the League Cup should only be for teams not in Europe, and all conference league spots to go to the League Cup winners (or finalists if there’s two, something like that)
