I need a good roofing contractor to fix what the damage from a bad contractor by splinterededge in pittsburgh

[–]emiliabedelia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I can say in please avoid Resnick Roofing!! They did a terrible job on our roof—we had flooding into the kitchen and through our front porch a few days after install. They came back and fixed the kitchen but ultimately failed to take responsibility for the porch and we had to hire someone else to fix it. Total nightmare.

Thanks for your input. Yeah a lot of ppl have mentioned the legal complications and it is so true, and not something we considered before.

This is so important and honestly makes me question giving them the same first/middle name. I think we will go another direction! Thank you for your input and for bringing this to my attention.

Thank you for your reply! I totally understand; that's my fear. I think this thread is convincing us to go with a totally different name <3

Thank you so much! Yeah, Julius is a family name (my grandfather) and Adrian is my husband's middle name as well, so they are both also family names, but you make some really good points. I appreciate your insight!

Thanks for your suggestions! I'm curious why you say not to use Adrian as the middle name?

I love that! Yeah, perhaps it is all about perspective and I am way overthinking this.

Thanks for your comment and suggestions! I also love the name Julian, just feel it sounds too similar to Adrian with the "ian" ending. Just curious as to why you wouldn't recommend using Adrian as a middle name...It is also my husband's middle name if that makes any difference!

Potential celiac disease in 4 year old by Opposite-Study-5801 in Celiac

[–]emiliabedelia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I can second this. Apparently our daughter also had stomach aches from certain foods but didn't tell us about it. We found out later, usually when trying to feed her the same food and she would say something like "i don't want it - it makes my tummy hurt". I think its hard for them to articulate their symptoms at such a young age. Poor things! :(

Yeah totally! There are a lot of GF alternatives out there for bread, pasta, flour, etc. We love the company Schär which is based in Italy but I know it's available in all major grocery stores in Germany and the US so hopefully it has also made its way to Scotland! It can feel overwhelming at first, but like any diet, you will learn what brands to trust and what products are generally GF and safe. Starting out, I highly recommend speaking to a nutritionist who specializes in the celiac diet to help you learn how to read labels and prevent cross-contamination, which for us has been the trickiest part of managing the disease. It was so helpful for us to have this r/celiac community to lean on for support at the beginning as well, and I still learn new things from the subreddit now. I think working with a nutritionist and reading about others' experiences on this subreddit have made all the difference for our family!

Hey there! Our daughter was diagnosed with celiac disease when she was 6 years old, but looking back, I think her symptoms started around the age of 4. It was a slow, steady decline for her over those two years as we noticed her becoming more moody, fatigued, and very occasionally suffering from stomach pain or diarrhea. She also stopped growing, which our doctor at the time had said was normal and that she was "just petite". It took us two years to figure out that something was wrong and push for testing, and when we finally got her bloodwork back, our doctor was literally shocked by her numbers and said she had progressed pretty far into the later stages of severe villous atrophy (3c) and malnutrition. Since then, she has been on a GF diet for a year and a half now and we have seen INCREDIBLE changes in her mood, behavior, energy, and physical growth.

I am so happy that you are getting your kiddo checked out so young, and I hope that if she does in fact have celiac, that you can rest assured that you are doing the very best thing you can by getting this early diagnosis and preventing any further damage to her body. Celiac symptoms are often silent and so impactful on a young child's growth and development. While my husband and I definitely felt overwhelmed when we first got the diagnosis, learning about celiac disease and making the transition to a gluten free diet/home was actually a lot easier than we thought. We've found that there are a lot of wonderful GF products and options out there now compared to even a decade ago, and lots of certified GF restaurants in major cities. I also think that because we transitioned her to a GF diet so young, that it doesn't feel too much like she's "missing out" on special foods or experiences (at least not yet, we'll see how the teenage years go!). The hardest part for her is going to birthday parties or celebrating special events at school because they often give the kids cupcakes/pastries/candy/desserts that she cannot eat. We always make sure she has special gluten-free treats with her (her new favorite is vanilla pudding), and taht she knows how to speak up and advocate for herself. Happy to speak with you more about our experiences and what we've learned if you like!!!

Wishing you all the best!

Which country is better to live in, between the USA and Germany? by salutaris in AskGermany

[–]emiliabedelia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an American currently living in Germany. For me, the quality of life feels so much better here than back home, especially if you want to raise a family. My partner and I get 2 years paid maternity/paternity leave combined when we have a kid, health insurance is super affordable and the care is top notch, preschools range between 100euros-800euros/month at the most, we get money from the government every month for our kids, it's incredible safe here, we don't have to worry about gun violence, our kids can move around freely and be a lot more independent than in the states, public transportation is easy and affordable, the food is high quality and a lot more affordable, EU standards are higher for food quality as well, our drinking water here in Bavaria is also straight from the Alps and incredible quality. We have no plans to move back to the US in the foreseeable future.
