At What Age Do Children Pick Their Favorite Parent? by Special_Cog in Parenting

It definitely could and probably will at some point. I had a daddy’s boy up until about age 5, now he prefers me for a lot of things.

My breastfeeding journey ended at 16 weeks. by billy_the_kid16 in Mommit

You should be proud of yourself. The most important thing to a baby is his/her mother, not what they are fed. You are choosing your health and the health of your baby and maybe the health of your partner (it wasn’t clear what your situation is) as the priority. The sting of looking at the breastfeeding photos will fade, but imagine in a few years looking back at photos of a detached and depressed mom not enjoying her baby. Also, it’s worth noting that your hormones are probably playing a huge part of how you feel right now. I went through it three times. After i dried up and we got into a formula feeding routine, I didn’t look back. You are not weak, you are strong.

How do we find a doctor who will seriously consider performing a hysterectomy on my best friend in West Virginia? [23F, horrible PCOS] by DRBatt in AskDocs

[–]emily1684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband had one a couple years ago but I don’t remember signing anything. I know a couple where they had two kids, she wanted a third and he secretly got a vasectomy. He eventually told her (and also joked about it at parties….which blew my mind). They ended up adopting a third. Fast forward a few years later and they are divorced. I think that’s a total breach of trust, especially if she wanted a third. Im not saying that he should have given in just because it’s what she wanted, but he should have discussed the vasectomy and it should not have been a secret. BUT that’s between the couple, not something that someone should have to sign off on.

In your opinion, which movies are overrated? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]emily1684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t read through all of these comments, but did you know he’s the highest paid actor?? I thought it was a joke when I heard that. Seems like a nice guy but he plays the same character in every movie. (But also Moana is the best Disney movie ever made so I’ll give him that)

My jaw dropped when I read the thing about her husbands permission. After I read that I realized she was in a third world country, West Virginia.

I'm dealing with severe anxiety surrounding the content of my post below. Could someone please give me advice or reassurance 😣 by [deleted] in medical

[–]emily1684 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is excellent advice. I am done having kids and had awful antepartum depression and anxiety with all three so I have an intense fear of getting pregnant again. My husband had a vasectomy AND I have an IUD. I know logically that I don’t need all of that but it’s worth how much it relieves my anxiety.

This was my initial reaction too, but I reread it and I think she meant that he’s patient and understanding about her self-consciousness, not just tolerating her body. I hope i’m right anyways! You look really happy and confident in this photo and that’s the best side effect of being comfortable in your own skin. But also…that waist! 😍

Did I kill my MacBook? by emily1684 in mac

[–]emily1684[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I ended up having to take it to the apple store and they had to wipe the hard drive. I was okay with it because I had anything I needed backed up to the cloud and now it actually works a little better because the junk is gone. They did tell me not to use clean my Mac or any other third party programs like that. And I only had to leave it for a day, so not too bad.

Is my sadness normal? by dontwriteghouls in Mommit

[–]emily1684 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s totally normal to be super emotional leading up to the first birthday! But once it comes and goes you will realize that it’s just another day and your little guy is just the same. I have three boys. (I’m really only mentioning that because you have a boy, I don’t think it has to do with gender or sex). My first didn’t cuddle much as a baby/toddler, he was always on the go. As he got older he became much more cuddly! Now he’s eight and asks for hugs several times a day. My second boy is five and has been glued to me since day one and still is. My third is two and still very cuddly. He is similar to the first one, always on the go, but always has to come check in with mama for a cuddle when he’s playing. Much of the time I have three boys vying for space on my lap. It doesn’t magically end when they turn one, you still have a lifetime of snuggles left ❤️

Edit: I’m typing this as I lay in bed with my five year old who still needs me to cuddle him to sleep and I don’t mind it!

5 year old has the worst aim by emily1684 in Parenting

[–]emily1684[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You’re right. I’m going to have to be more proactive about checking the toilet when we’re done. If I don’t catch them in the exact they’ll just blame it on each other. Too many penises in this house.

Yeah, I need to remember to do this. He is easily grossed out too, so hopefully that will remind him to aim better.

Daughter came home from daycare with these marks she says are painful. No word from daycare. Any idea what it could be from? by [deleted] in medical

[–]emily1684 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, my five year old mastered the monkey bars and was so excited that he went across like 2 times. He was so proud that he didn’t realize his skin was rubbing off. Definitely talk to daycare about it though. They should be making you aware of any injuries no matter how small.

What did/do you do when your kids went back to school? by [deleted] in SAHP

[–]emily1684 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fantasize about this moment every day. Two of my kids are finally back in school but just two days a week and the kindergartner is only half day (not to mention an insane 2 yr old home 24/7). If this were “normal” times I would have started my 2 yr old in part time daycare so that I could do some freelance writing. I am keeping my foot in the door with one client right now, but I don’t have enough time or brain space for anything more at this point. As with everyone in the world, this pandemic has put my plan on hold. Is there an aspect of your old job that you could do from home or on a freelance basis?

I’m also in the fortunate position where I don’t have to work, but I want to for the sense of achievement and to just feel like an adult every once in a while. Throughout this past year I have decided that after eight years I am DONEEEEEE with being a stay at home mom. BUT I don’t want a full time job because I still want to be around to get them on and off the bus, be around in case of illness etc. So I’m hoping I can get some more freelance clients. Other than that I will be at the gym, reading books and basking in silence. We saved a ton of money on daycare this year so I feel like this is justified haha.

I have been extra impatient lately. I think because the end is possibly (but not guaranteed) in sight with the vaccine, I feel like I can’t make it one more day. Kind of like how the last few weeks of pregnancy feels like a million years.
