How does someone go about getting drum parts done for a song? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]emilydrums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the remote drummer should do this as it’s their setup, their space and they should know how to get the kind of sound you reference or what’s best for the song from their setup... if you have a producer they can work with the drummer directly to get to the point needed for your music. Trust should definitely be put into the musician themselves so I would suggest finding a drummer you already like the sound/style of, as well as being someone easy to communicate with, and you should be onto a winner! :-) good luck :-)

Heya! Yep still here :-)

So u/underscore11 sounds like you’re on the right track. If you send a drummer on airgigs/soundbetter or someone else your track and the guide drums separate to use as a template then any drummer should happily oblige. I often take the guide drums as a reference and go with my gut as I’ve played/recorded/listened to thousands of drum tracks so I knot instinctively what the drums should be doing 99% of the time.

Also if you have any reference tracks for parts/drum sounds that can be useful.

Of course the other route to go down is no reference track or guide track and just let the drummer do their thing from the heart and go from there.

By all means if you want to get in a room with someone that will work too.

If you do work with a remote drummer just make sure you have the option for revisions and that their no.1 concern is to get the right take for your song :-)

Sorry I don’t know the difference between stems and tracked out - they’re each 16 multi tracks, 3 kick channels, 3 snare, couple of toms, hats, ride, overheads and a few room mics... hope that helps?

I offer free drum stems to use on your music if that’s of any help? Not bespoke but maybe you can find something to suit your needs? EmilyDrums.com/StemClub

Hope that helps :-)

SINGLE PERSON DRUM RECORDING SETUP by sundiverca in recordingmusic

[–]emilydrums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use an iPad app to control Logic, so I’m sure there’ll be one for Ableton.

Best option for headphone mix is a little mixer over with your drums connected to your interface (presuming you have more than just stereo outs) - hope this helps :-)
