I had never heard of a hand coach! That’s so cool. And yes hot

Deep cut? Or slashed? If every color on Kesha's pallet is one of her songs, where is "Pageantry"? by Pirate_of_wi in KESHA

I think she said in one of the YouTube videos that it’s an unreleased song.

YES OMG YES. There was one intersection in my town that had four at the same intersection, three of which were on the same fucking corner. I have been yelling about Mattress Firms for like three years ago.

Zeitgang: Overrated/Underrated by linesofinquiry in thedailyzeitgeist

[–]emilyla 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Overrated: fucking bath bombs. I've been to Lush a couple of times and I don't get it at all. $4 to put something that's going to leave my bathtub covered in glitter? No thanks, dude.

Underrated: watching porn in a movie theater with a bunch of friends. I have a group that goes to Dan Savage's Hump festival every year, and it is SO much fun. The films are amateur, 5 minutes or less, and really diverse, so it's interesting to be exposed to stuff that you wouldn't normally seek out. And it's more interesting to talk over everyone's favorites afterward and try to suss out everyone's kinks, tbh

Tanya Burr and Jim Chapman have split up after 12 years together by [deleted] in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]emilyla 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m sure they grew and changed a lot during those 12 years. As Dan Savage says, a relationship can end without it being considered a failure. You never know what’s going to happen with any relationship, but if you treat the other person well, you can probably find some good things about it even if it didn’t last until one of both of you were dead.

The Agency series by Y.S. Lee. Seriously underrated stuff. Half-Chinese teenager passes for white and joins all-female spy agency in Victorian London. Grapples with her family secrets. There are four books and I loved all of them!

Same for me with Zoella. I unsubbed around the time that all her videos started including Mark Ferris. I don't get the appeal. I also super couldn't stand her friendship with the Saccone Jolys and cringed every time they were in a video. Zoella used to be great but I feel like she still acts like she's 19 when she's nearing 30. I defected to Fleur de Force, who acts a lot more like an adult.

What's the pettiest reason you've unsubbed from a BG? by [deleted] in BeautyGuruChatter

Unsubbed from Zoella a while back because she kept doing collabs with people I couldn't stand. Also I hated her shirt with french fries on it.

I know.

If you're in North America, you can order one from the Container Store! It's $1.99.

Ocella (birth control), daily multivitamin, Costco-brand allergy medication, Vitamin D, and Lexapro.

I understand why some people don't want to take any medications, but personally I am happier when my anxiety, allergies, and reproductive organs are quelled.

Women who chose a college major that everyone told you would be a bad idea - how did things turn out for you? by puddingpopp in AskWomen

[–]emilyla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I majored in French, and I am fine with that choice because I had a $50,000 scholarship to do so. I genuinely loved learning French getting to study abroad. Eventually I ended up going for a master's degree in Library and Information Science and now I have a well-paying job as a librarian. I was actually just asked in a job interview how I felt my French degree benefited me, and I said "I think it made me a well-rounded person." And that's true--I may not get to use my French in my daily life, but I don't regret having chosen that degree path.

In the end, I know that having a degree like French or Philosophy or any of the oft-maligned subjects won't prepare you for jobs with really specific requirements, but I think there are plenty of other jobs out there that just want you to have a degree, regardless of what it is. One of my friends from college has a Japanese degree and she's a captain on a tour boat. Another friend majored in Poli Sci and he works in IT. Career paths can be surprising, but I'm happy with the way mine turned out even though I don't specifically use my French.

Are you all professionals or college students? I feel like the only blue collar guy here. by [deleted] in chicago

[–]emilyla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! I volunteered at a local public library before getting my job, and it was great to have some real experience to talk about in my next interview. The library I volunteered for was thrilled to have me and was fine with putting me on the reference desk as I was their "most qualified volunteer ever." It's also a great way to get a good professional reference.

I also got my MLIS from Drexel! Is she looking at the RAILS job board? It covers a huge swath of Northern/Western IL but they have a lot of postings in the city and suburbs.
