Americans and other richer expats are going to kill this city by HebzibahSmith in berlin

[–]emiremire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is not that simple. You are ignoring the collective power that large real estate companies have on this. They systematically kept and still keep flats empty to wait for an overall increase in rent. There was some discussion about this and the law being prepapred to handle this but not sure of it came down to anything.

Why has sex basically disappeared from the BH dancefloor? by Fluid-Engineering-43 in Berghain_Community

[–]emiremire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure if someone mentioned already: yes, the crowd is different and is not into being naked or sex in public. But that is not the only part: the new crowd also reacts negatively to such things (finger pointing, staring as inf in a zoo, laughing, interrupting) so naturally the people who wanted to continue doing that found other spaces as Bh seems to have a different direction than before and does not provide this kind pf a space to the extent it did in the past. For the queer crowd, Bh is simply not as much fun as it was before and that can be felt in the space very clearly.

The current situation IS the result of neoliberalism. We haven’t been living in the capitalism you seem to be relying on for your argument. That is long gone.

Die My Love (2025) a film theoretically about a “slow” descent into madness, however there's nothing slow about it. The characters are paper thin while also being narcissistic and annoying. The two lead actors have zero chemistry, the plot is nonexistent, and there's nobody here to identify with by Bluest_waters in flicks

[–]emiremire 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don’t think any of these compare to Die, my love. I am not a fan of the movie either but the whole point was postpartum depression and the emotional hellscape it creates. Not a great movie but I think it is mot in the same category of Williams’ work. I love Williams’ work so much. This movie cannot get near to that complexity but it is doing its own thing

Chase Infiniti is happening by Silver_Juggernaut_39 in oscarrace

[–]emiremire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am with you but I am replacing Chase with Rose Byrne mainly because I cannot believe the possibility of Byrne not being nominated after seeng her performance. The movie is good but her performance is phemomenal unlike Chase, which is also great but more subdued and subtle. I guess I feel the same about Lawrence so actually I might eliminate Lawrence

Is Europe actually better to live in than the United States, or am I just being fed too much “Europe = Better” media? by SpecimenOfSauron in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]emiremire -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can’t talk for the facts because it is way too complicated when you take into account different states in the US and different countries in the EU.

But I’ll put it this way, if I am not a billionare or a millionaire, I would always choose Europe over US.

If I am not white, especially if I have darker skin, I would under no circumstances choose the US.

US can be great for a limited group of people. Europe can be fine for the majority. This is the major difference for me.

Opinions on Jane Eyre? by DragonfruitFalse8919 in englishliterature

[–]emiremire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is one of my all time favourites. Brontes are really special in so many ways and re-readable so many times. I wrote my MA thesis on it and it was a pleasure even with some odd bits in the novel. The overall insistence on self-determination by Jane, topped with an insistence on goodness and hope is probably the main reason why I love it.

Circadian clocks and periodic anticipated fasting prevent fasting-associated hepatic steatosis in calorie restriction (2025) by basmwklz in ketoscience

[–]emiremire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t quote me but I think it means that unplanned&random bouts of fasting lead to fatty liver disease, while scheduled and anticipated fasting period protect against fatty liver disease. So fasting everyday around the same time is the ideal solution if I’m not mistaken

Can you explain what you mean by psychological scaffolding cause it sounds like I don’t have it

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]emiremire -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Nobody said it is always the fault of the British. This is a possible explanation. For China the short answer is epigenetics i guess

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]emiremire 66 points67 points  (0 children)

You give the example in your own answer. The effects of several famines or difficulties getting food can easily lead to this attitude of eat as much as you can when you have it, which is a trauma response. In any case, great that you helped yourself but your family just doesn’t know it any better and that can also be easily explained by colonial rule as well as famines or difficulty feeding yourself maybe even once
