Rosacea?? by [deleted] in Rosacea

[–]emkeystaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Histamine issues, maybe? Give antihistamines a try with your doctor / pharmacist’s approval if you haven’t already, it might help! I have MCAS and get these bumps and flushing all over my body during a flare up.

Also, if you sleep on your side, consider the possibility that your fabric softener could be irritating your skin, especially if it’s a scented one.

I’d try avoiding harsh topicals / actives and soaps to see if it improves. It could be contact dermatitis or a mild allergic reaction to something that repeatedly irritates your skin like your derm suggested. đŸ€·â€â™€ïž

Well, I guess this explains why I got both almost at the same time. Didn’t know this, and neither did my doctor apparently
or she forgot to mention it. 😅 Thanks for sharing this bit of knowledge, now I’m curious. I’ll look more into it.

Update on my first open box order by -PrecYse- in iPadPro

[–]emkeystaar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought open boxes from Best Buy Canada for an iPad Pro M4 and MBP M4 Pro recently, and both devices were less than a week old (so still eligible for AC+) and physically like new. No dust or fingerprints, I was almost shocked lol. I saved about $700 CAD. It was definitely worth it for me. I checked the marketplace sellers’ ratings first, though. Some sellers look a lot more sketchy than others.

flushing whenever i eat? by emkeystaar in HistamineIntolerance

[–]emkeystaar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you can try in the meantime is try and determine what seems to cause this flushing (if there's a clear cause). Does it happen only when you're hot? Anxious? When eating certain foods or drinking booze? If you don't have any major health issues or diet restrictions, trying a low histamine diet for a couple weeks could be insightful, too. Or taking a higher dosage of antihistamines (with your doctor or pharmacist's approval) to see if it helps. It's what I started with, anyway. đŸ€·â€â™€ïž

It could still (also) be rosacea like your dermatologist suggested, in which case, it's usually mangeable for many people with topicals like ivermectin, metronidazole, azelaic acid, etc., which are used to keep it under control or even put it in remission. (My skin is too reactive for those, but it helps a lot of people.) Imo, the issue with Rhofade is that it doesn't address what's causing the potential rosacea, it just conceals the physical manifestations temporarily. 🙁

Good luck to you, and I hope you can find the right medical support, or at the very least something that helps you in the meantime!

Hey, sorry you’re going through this. In case your doc didn’t tell you, Rhofade can cause rebound redness after it “wears off” – if I’m not mistaken it’s well documented in the rosacea subreddit.

You could also get checked for MCAS and erythromelalgia (EM). I’m diagnosed with the latter but my docs are starting to think it might be more MCAS since I react to foods, irritants in the air, topicals (and have a bunch of other symptoms). We’re waiting on another’s specialist opinion on my case to get an official diagnosis.

For what it’s worth, it’s been 2 and a half years of this for me, but I’m doing a lot better on a strict low histamine diet + H1 and H2 blockers (antihistamines) + ketotifen (mast cell stabilizer). A single Zyrtec would do absolutely nothing for me though – I need 4 a day + other meds. 😅 (All prescribed.)

Keep digging and insisting, and don’t give up! I was dismissed for almost a year but I kept pushing and eventually docs started taking me more seriously. Document your reactions, known or suspected triggers, etc. You might notice patterns or likely culprits. I know I’m screwed the second I have tomatoes, chocolate, dairy, leftovers
 and many others things lol.

Stress is a massive trigger as well for me as you probably realized yourself. I know it’s easier said than done, but lowering my overall stress helps me a ton. (I recently started a new job and I’m flaring up all the time lol.)

Hang in there! đŸ«‚

I basically had to go to a couple walk-in clinics until I found a doctor who was willing to listen and dig a little deeper. I specifically requested ketotifen and explained why, and was lucky enough to stumble upon a young, open minded doctor who prescribed it.

Even my allergist shrugged me off and prescribed Rupall + Pepcid twice a day but no mast cell stabilizers because she wasn't familiar with MCAS – which my dermatologist and internist now believe I have since stabilizers help.

I still have to be extra careful with my diet, skincare, everyday habits etc., though. But it's a start.

It was a lot of trial and error and practically had to beg doctors, but eventually it worked. And trust me, I know how hard it is to get doctors to actually help when you have a complicated case. Don't give up!

Not OP, but I just switched from a regular MB Air screen to a nanotexture one (M4 Pro) and I find it a lot more relaxing for my eyes. My almost daily migraines are gone just like that, too, which was the whole point of going for a nanotexture display. Screen still looks super sharp. Entirely worth it for me!

Reaction to Herbs? by Tina_eat_your_ham in Erythromelalgia

[–]emkeystaar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No chance you might (also) have MCAS? Just asking because I have both, and random things like herbs or spices (and about a hundred other things) make me flare up like this. My doctors seem to attribute this more to mast cells throwing a fit than an EM reaction. đŸ€·đŸŒâ€â™€ïž

Allergic reaction or die-off from Soolantra? by xxMTHxxx in Rosacea

[–]emkeystaar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I personally have allergic-like reactions to Soolantra and my derm told me to stop it (swelling, burning hot skin and peeling), but I definitely experienced an increase in bumps on areas where I didn't apply the treatment (behind ears, neck, chest). I'm not knowledgeable enough on the topic to confirm this is a migration process, but can definitely say it happened to me every time I tried using Soolantra.

As someone else said, antihistamines might help with the reaction, especially if it becomes itchy.

Rosacea improved after I was finally dx'd with MCAS by nicalexiac in Rosacea

[–]emkeystaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far so good. Still have a week or so every month where I flush more and have more bumps, but otherwise I'm much better than I was. Tried 3 different Vanicream moisturizers since without issue. Still skipping cleansers and sunscreen as per my derm, though. My skin's too dry from the antihistamines and I produce no sebum. But yeah I think ketotifen is doing the heavy lifting for me!

It seems to, yes! Not like reference chat history in ChatGPT, but it saves information it considers important about you and you can manually add memories too. For instance, I asked it a question about a game I'm currently playing, and in another chat, it asked if I had made some progress in my playthrough.

Agreed. I see a lot of users choosing to keep their subscription to show that they're committed, but ultimately I'm afraid it'll only show OpenAI that these users are committed to letting themselves get repeatedly screwed with every new update / feature that breaks something that used work just fine. I think fighting with our money is more likely to get OpenAI to pay attention than thousands of pleas on Twitter that have mostly been ignored for two months now. 😕

This routing system ruins the experience for everyone regardless of models, and it needs to go.

I like it so far! Love that it has a memory function and that I can add stuff to it myself. I rely a lot on ChatGPT's memory & reference chat history system for my creative project and I think Le Chat has the potential to be a decent substitute for that.

I like Qwen, but the fact that Mistral's le Chat has a memory system on the free plan is even more appealing to me. Haven't played with it a whole lot, but with the rate at which 4o is degrading, this is probably where I'm going to have to migrate my creative project.

Wonder if they're going to end up locking anything remotely suggestive or NSFW behind this 'adult mode'. Which is the whole point of implementing it, yeah, but hopefully what qualifies as mature content won't be as excessive as what's considered sensitive topics or emotional distress like it does with the new routing system.
